Hi y'all - yes I identify myself as being severely insulin resistant - which I self-diagnosed, and my longtime GP agreed with, based on my medical history, dawn phenomenon, and C-peptide levels. My liver produces, over-produces, lots of insulin, unless I am, basically, not eating.
I just need to look at a carb, it seems, and my body responds by putting out a heap of insulin. This is from a lifetime of too many carbs, way too many, is my reasoning.
In this context, knowing how much insulin my own liver puts out there, all on its own now, due to my stuffed up blood glucose regulation system, I cannot imagine taking insulin on top of that to deal with my too high blood glucose levels. My cells have had too much glucose, and too much insulin, for decades (my whole life - thinking about the ribena in the baby bottle ho ho ho). Hence the resistance of said cells to my very own insulin.
Yes - for me, keeping my carb intake as low as I can take is bottom line.
But @lcarter, you have a whole team of medical professionals who must be talking to you about their decisions with regard to your condition and your treatment? What do they say? That you were thought to be type 1 for 11 years is extremely interesting, and your type was recently changed? If the docs were afraid you had ketoacidosis, were your ketones up due to keto diet, but your blood glucose levels were also sky high?
