- People that feel just because diabates is a life-threatening "illness" it should be treated with kid gloves and nobody is allowed to have a laugh. My humour got me through abuse, near death experiences, serious and debilitating illnesses and lifelong pain and deformity - why give up the thing that works??
Hellooo ...
Still yet to have my diabetic consult, so putting all my faith in you lot
Only advice (apart from meds) at Dr's appt was to "try and lose weight".
So having read a lot of info here and in various sources I have decided to go the low-carb route to managing my blood sugars.
When I was pregnant (BACKSTORY: Gestational Diabetes, pushing insulin humulog some 100unit per main meal lol towards the end) I experienced keto-acidosis in a rather unpleasant manner, if I didn't manage to keep anything I ate and spent many weeks in hospital on drips to keep my fluids up - that state is therefore something I began to want to avoid at all costs as it had made me feel like death in a blender.
(sorry, rambled)
soooooo - for many years I've done the classic high carb low fat route to so-called "healthy eating" and where that got me is fatter and diabetic full time.
I've been diagnosed two weeks now and aside from one small mis-demeanor involving my (laughable) attempt at home-made-low-carb-bread which despite my best skills (and I'm a good cook) made my BG stay up over 10 at 2 hours past the eating (that was one small slice) ... I've been eating very low carb diet.
So far, no weight-loss miracles have occurred (there was me thinking I'd me Miss Bikini Xmas Dolly by DEcember) - so I'm wondering what precisely else I can do?
Toe is on the mend (after incident involving a jar of honey, my foot and a 6 foot fall from a cupboard) so I'm starting running again (read: wobbling and sweating lots) but I have been walking lots anyhow, and have a 4 year old kid, so sitting isn't really a viable passtime anyhow.
Any hints would be hugely gratefully received!!!
Many thanks,
Jem xoxoxox
