Anyone else feel like this??

Hi I'm new to this and haven't been diagnosed but given a blood glucose meter as I kept having what I can only describe as a 'low'- hungry, weak, shakey, sweating, heart going at a million miles and hour, vision blurred - starts with the heat wave first then the rest have to lie down and either coke or lucozade to sort me out and my mum only has to look at me to know I need food and need it now. Constantly drinking pints if water and peeing a lot and constantly tired. Also been getting up in middle of night and eating having to have tea and toast- it's like a switch being flicked i have to get up and eat otherwise il lie awake with sore head and feeling ****. Was given monitor to test when feeling like this and I've had a 3.6 reading, a 7.9 before lunch and 7 2 hours later and a 6.7 tonight at 4.45am - I feel so hungry and thirsty. Anybody give any advice are these readings ok? Does anybody else feel like this?
 
you need a few days to get a pattern, when you wake up before breakfast and every meal and 2 hr after and before bed. and of course when you feel funny. write it all down and what you eat
anything under 3 and over 11, I would immediately tell the Dr. he may arrange a 3-5hr glucose tolerance test, where you have a sugar drink and blood tests

It's all in your first sentence ..... you haven't been diagnosed and you need that done pronto. The second point is who provided you with a meter and why?

We have a fair way to go with you in determining what's going on, but from what you've said, you're describing a few of the familiar symptoms.

Go visit your GP, get it confirmed with some bloods and let's take it from there. Before you do anything else, dump the coke / lucozade as regardless of what's going on, they are loaded with sugars and ARE not good for you.

I read it as the dr gave the meter to check for hypo when feeling funny and hungry, after assuring himself there was nothing acute. but you are right, a dr needs consulting if this is not the case.

Exactly mate ..... in this instance, it's tantamount to some level of precaution and / or meter results B4 determining what's wrong or what he suspects is wrong .... if indeed he did it.

Not saying that's a bad thing at all ... perhaps he had suspicions but it does seem a little like "cart before the horse". Even if that was the case, wouldn't you imagine some basics like questions re sugars/ diet etc?

Let's wait and see :)
 
I agree with @jack412 that a few more readings are needed to see if there is a pattern to glucose levels. In this respect keeping a food diary would also be helpful

Reading the original post it seems like the Op is describing both symptoms of hyperglycemia ( the thirst and excessive peeing) and hypoglycemia ( the weakness, intense hunger, dizziness)

Reactive hypoglycemia is one thing that springs to my mind as a possibility

As Jack suggests perhaps a glucose tolerance test may be useful for the doctor to consider.

Have to go back in a couple of weeks but just wondered did anybody else experience these symptoms who haven't been diagnosed or anything else could be. Think I'm just worrying about it so much now which isn't helping but don't want to waste doctors time either. Yes she tiled me to get rid of the lucozade but kinda like a safety net and dunno what else to take that would help. Thanks

I had to google what a glucose tolerance test was but having done that does sound like something to mention to the doctor. And the reactive hypo. Thanks guys for your comments they've been really helpful and I'm defo going to mention your points when I go back to the doctor. I really appreciate it. Thanks you!

How was your day today. Did you continue to experience the same kind of symptoms.

Did you get much testing done. What were your sugar levels like.

I suppose at this stage the best thing you can go is keep your diet and routine the same as always and just collect as many glucose counts as you can for the doctor to review.

Try to associate your glucose readings with specific events such as meals, exercise or periods when feeling hypo if any.

Take care of yourself

Yesterday was a very hungry day - no matter what I ate was still hungry and thirsty. In just trying to keep a diary of food and the times i feel low. I do eat brown carbs - sweet potatoe, brown rice, brown pasta, brown bread instead of white carbs and no fat free or diet foods or drinks. And drink a lot of green tea. I will persevere the next couple of weeks and go back to doctor will the recording and diary. Thank you you too you's have been very helpful

Just a wee update . Awake at 3.30am hungry did test measured 2.1 got up had glass of pomegranate juice, and 2 wholemeal toast and cup of tea - half an hour later 9.5 - got up to pee 5 times int the space of 2 and a half hours. Got up and at half7 was 3.3 had 40g bowl of oat brand with 240 ml of milk and agave syrup and cup of tea. Feeling so hungry and bout t have another x2rou da of wholemeal toast. So hungry and so tired and haven't even left for work :( any thoughts in this? In booking to go see my doctor again but likely to be after Christmas as so hard to get an appointment!

2.1, that's enough to go back to the DR with..I'd ring for an urgent appointment ...., good googling,,:)
you can do a home GTT as a guide to what's going on..fasting morning..75mg of glucose and test every 1/2 hour for 5 hrs, that may show any diabetes and/or reactive hypo

low BG can make you

went back and they've said it's not diabetes so I've been referred to hospital for further investigation thanks for all you help and comments guys! X
 
Hi, it has already been mentioned that it could be a form of hypoglycaemia.
I have a condition called Late Reactive hypoglycaemia. My advice is to read up on hypos. There is some really good threads on it. Use the search function.
Symptoms you will recognise, some you will go aaaagh! Yes that's me!
I advise eating as low carb as possible and eating very small plates sizes every two to three hours. That will give you some control over your blood levels, test every time you eat and monitor what's good and what's bad for you!
Dump the bread, spuds, pasta, rice etc.
And dump the sugar drinks they are like poison if you have the condition.
What happens when you eat carbs is your blood glucose levels 'spike' and then instead of normalising you create too much insulin (hence not being diabetic) that creates too much glucagon that gives you a hypo (low BSLs). You then have something that's carb loaded and you spike again and go hypo again. It's a yoyo effect.
The best way to normalise is a cup of teA or coffee (black no sugar) and one plain biscuit, this will slowly raise your BSLs and then fast for a few hours. Then eat small meals every two to three hours and test.
You will need tests to verify your condition.
Best wishes, it's not life threatening unless you ignore it. I feel twenty years younger since my diagnosis and my symptoms have gone!

Thank you! Yes I'm glad not diabetes but scared as to what it actually is. But what you've said there does make sense. That's good you feel twenty years younger! I feel like an old woman would be good to not feel constantly tired and have some energy! I will do they're putting it through urgently to be seen over next couple of weeks so hopefully be a bit wiser then! Thank you!
 
It is actually the control of your BSLs that gives you the energy and the tiredness will be better. Fluctuating BSLs gives you all the symptoms. I do need meds to help me but I do not go over 6mmols if I can help it! I can still have my treats. I eat very well and I've lost loads of weight. I'm fitter and healthier than I've been for a long time, I work part time in a physical job. I corny do that a couple of years ago before diagnosis!
Hope you get an endocrinologist that is modern thinking. And recognising what I think you have. I may be wrong!
Ask questions I will try and answer them, read the threads!
