anyone else finding it hard to lose weight ?

Great start on the improved BG control:)

You may be eating too much fat, try to eat just enough fat that you don’t feel the need to have snacks. I don’t like the name “Low Carb, High Fat”, I would be better called “Low Carb, Enough Fat”. But if you need to eat the fat to be happy, then eat the fat, as being able to control BG long term is the aim, and you can’t do that if you are not enjoying your food.

More walking and other exercise you do the better as it will build up muscle mass so reduce your insulin insensitivity, as well as the short term benefit of improving BG control on the day. Muscle mass will lower your BG even when you are sleeping.

Forget about losing weight for at least a few weeks, just try to get fitter and control your BG with low curbs so you can slowly reduce the insulin you are taking. Check BG often, so you know very quickly if it goes out of control.

Once you are able to safely stop using insulin and any meds that result in your body creating additional insulin, you insulin levels will drop. High insulin levels stop the body from burning your fat, so only once they are under control can you burn off your fat.

Don’t try to go too fast, don’t fast etc until you are off the insulin and insulin producing meds, as the likes of “Mr Jason Fung” monitor his clients closely, and it is unlikely your doctor is checking your bloods a few times a week. So keep doing what you are doing, but be sensible.

Don't expect to turn round a problem that has been building for many years in a few days.

I could never eat that much saturated fat and control my bs. If I have a meal out of chicken wings my bs will remain high for three days. I'm much better with mono/ plant fats such as avocado, mayo, a few nuts or olives.

And I would pack on the pounds.
Protein is not to be over looked either as 50+ percent turns to bs.

I follow a vlc ( less than 20) MODERATE protein ( .8-1 g per kg LEAN body mass) and just enough fat to satisfy but no more. His is what keeps my bs very happy and my weight steady.

I look at it as low carb, HEALTHY fat, not high fat. Too much of any food will cause weight gain. Portions do matter. Many of us don't eat many calories, it's just a higher PERCENTAGE of fat vs protein or carbs.

I have to restrict my fats as well as my carbs, or I put weight on.
Do you restrict protein too?

I still measure my protein but can eyeball my veggies and then I eat fat just to satisfy but as I said, I need to restrict saturated fat.
I do eat lamb and beef but lean, in small portions and cut visible fat. I eat chicken thighs but never the skin and I just bake them without additional fat. Of course I eat fatty fish. In fact I think smoked salmon from our farmers market is on the lunch menu!

I dont restrict my protein. I do not restrict my fats either, except to be aware of how many calories i am eating and stopping when I reach my daily limit. When I say I restrict fats, I dont mean I eat Low Fat anything, I simply do not add more fat to whole fat foods and the fats found in the meat and poultry etc I eat if that additional fat would take me over my personal calorie limit.

Great!! One more question please. Do you think you eat a lot of meat? Any idea how much? Just curious

I eat maybe a small breast of chicken, or about 4oz red meat with my main meal. No other meat daily. I dont like beef or pork much. Just a bit of it with my green veg is enough. I do have salmon when i can.

Great answer. Makes me feel better. I don't like lots of flesh meat either. Or more so it doesn't like my bs. I don't tolerate it well during the day but like it in the evening. It does crazy things during the day that it doesn't do at night. Weird. Do you eat pulses or other sources of gen proteins regularly? I just feel like I'm low protein according to guidelines but I feel best lower. I used to eat lots more but looking back I never felt good.
