Anyone else have a diabetic dog?

He is closer now to being stabilised than when I last posted.
I take it your using Caninsulin.
Trouble is it is hard to fine tune with this, in the usa they use mainly human insulin which can be bought cheaply in Walmart, without prescription, and they can mix their own ratios of short/intermediate type insuin to suit their circumstances.
The vets I have seen no very little about diabetes, I know more about it than them, and you will have to do the same and read everything you can about it.

Ooh this sounds worrying. Yes we are using Caninsulin only ll mg x2. Vet said yesterday his blood sugar was still showing a bit high and wanted to increase to 12 but l did not go down that route cos he had what I call a slump, very quiet and sleepy, most unlike him, and had to rub Honey into his gums. He was fine within the hour so did not want to increase insulin . I noticed however he was very sticky around his Bits, urine came back ok , but, l don't know, but wondered if rubbing Honey into gums caused excess sugar in urine. Will order alpha track 2 and join group that you suggested. Will prob post again thanks for replying it's good to have some to talk to who knows. Jan

Rubbing honey into his gums is only a short boost to his glucose level for maybe an hour or so.
This should be followed up a small amount of carbohydrates, say 15-20mg of his usual kibble to sustain him a bit longer
You will not have any idea of what is going on until you get a meter.
Urine testing is pretty much pointless as all it tells you is that his glucose level is too high, it doesnt tell you if he is low.
What are you feeding him.
There is a u.k one for sale on ebay uk now I think for £68 or best offer, it has been used a little bit.
Offer him £50 plus postage.
