I've come across a blog by Dr Britta which was quite interesting. I thought that his dietary advice for men might especially appeal ( it's called the caveman diet :) ). What does anyone else think?

Isn't this the same as the Paleo diet? There is a recent thread on this.

Were not going to have this same old caveman diet argument again are we

Enough to make you bonker your head against a brick wall isn't it Sid?

Sorry, not intending to start another war of words ( or even mild sarcasm ), just thought it might be helpful for people fighting their DN's on the whole low carb/low fat thing to have another viewpoint. I'm not a big one for conspiracy theories but it does seem to point to a kind of conspiracy of complacency to tell people not to touch any kind of sugar ( this is what I was told by my DN ) but to eat carbs with every meal. I had to explain that carbs were broken down into glucose and which did she want me to do, eat sugar or not eat sugar? One nonplussed and slightly aggressive nurse was my legacy to her next patient! If it wasn't hurting so many people, it would be funny!

ah Dr Briffa - he is a medical doctor who now calls himself a nutritionist - he has no qualifications as far as I am aware. He usually bans most real Dietitians and nutritionist - he has some very wacky ideas and the medical profession regard him as a quack - look at the bad science web site by Dr Ben Goldacre.
His latest blog is about mammograms - he disagrees with them plus has some very alternative views about vaccinations!

I have read a few of his books and they are alternative and his meal plans recipes would cost a normal family a fortune - he can never answer questions about real food or menu planning!!!! Asked once if he could cook and he would not answer!
He also has his business side in lots of vitamin companies, go lower .
He also just launched an analysis package - his website gives no explanation of how it works or how he is analysing diets!

He also seems to attract alot of people with similar views to him !!

Oh lordy! How wrong have I got this? Hang on *dives off to find new Sainsbury magazine where I read the article*. Okay, yes it is Briffa - oops sorry  . It's in an article called 'Men and Food, the facts'. It has a lot of the psychological reasoning behind which diets are better for men and why.
Another thing that may be of interest to some...Sainsbury magazine has started to put carb counts on their recipes.

alot of people can follow a moderate approach to CHO and get good results - I have many pts who have HBA1 c in the 5s and eat CHO with each meal - but the portions are controlled, Nurses are not always the best to ask about diet anyway - and that is not a crticism they often have no training.

Back to Briffa tho - he has some really wacky threads on his website!
