My cat and I are battling it out to see who can get their sugars under control first! Has anyone else had experience of a diabetic cat? I have got the knack of injecting her now - do it while she is eating, rather than chase her around the house wielding a needle when she has finished! Perhaps it’s karma that I’m having to inject myself, having been injecting her for a while now!

Trying to remember who it was on the Type 1 stars thread who used to have a diabetic cat, I'm sure someone did. @JoKalsbeek had a diabetic cat as well. And @Marie 2 had a diabetic dog, if that helps.

I’m sorry to hear that. May I ask how old your cat is and how long have they had diabetes?

I'm intrigued.
How high to cats go & are their numbers comparable to ours.
Also, for an animal that only lives 15 years if you're lucky how serious is it ?

cats can live up to 20 years. it's still long for a cat. 1 cat year = 15 human years.

Sad to hear that, Unfortuantely diabeties can happen in a lot of animals. But with a lot of prey animals e.g guinea pigs, hamsters you may not catch it till it was too late. I had a couple of guinea pigs a few years ago who passed away unkown reason. However i think they proberly passed away from diabeties as they were drinking and peeing way to much. (They were also young so i doubt it was issues with there kidneys), However they passed away a day before the vet appoitment. Being diabetic myself i didn't want to get any more pigs till recently as i blamed myself for not spotting it earlier (Even though i was in school back then, I blamed myself a lot.). I just hope it doesn't happen to my current pigs. My mum knows of a few dogs and cats that are diabetic too. Talking about this i wonder if reptiles, birds & Fish/amphibians could get it?, I guess any animal that has a pancreas can get it.
