Hi all, or mainly women I’m due for a hysteroscopy and biopsy of the uterus ( mine unfortunately) next Friday under a general anaesthetic. I also have to have a coil fitted, as I’m also epileptic and need to do this to ensure I’m not pregnant while taking my epilepsy medication ( it’s to ensure you don’t sue if you become pregnant - the babies are at high risk of deformities. ). I’m 51 but not menopausal yet. I’ve also got an under active thyroid and am coeliac. I’ve read that diabetics are 50% more likely to develop uterine cancer. I’ve had type 1 for 44 years. Anyone else know much? I’m struggling to find a conclusive answer from my doctors, as they are all specialists in different fields. Not much I can do about it all now I guess, and I’m secretly looking forward to next Friday ( love a good anaesthetic me ) as it means a few days off work.

Connie at, I'm not T1, coeliac or living with epilepsy, but I have had a hysteroscopy. I was in and out the same day, although a bit uncomfortable for a couple of days. No more than uncomfortable in my case. I hope yours is just as easy.

I ahevnt read the stats for T1 and uterine cancer, but would hope you can be comforted by having the hysteroscopy, wherethey can have a really good look and do all tests they'd care for, without you knowing anything about it.

My own hysteroscopy led to a hysterectomy, as I had a fibroid the size of a decent melon getting in the way of my day-to-day life. Whilst I'd rather not have had to have the op, I felt exceptionally well after it, as the fibroid had been causing all the usual heavy bleeding, pain and so on.

Fingers crossed for the best of outcomes for you. I'm sure you will be well looked after.

@conniecar I had a hysteroscopy whilst awake in Jan 2018 which led to me being diagnosed with uterine cancer. I had a total hysterectomy a couple of weeks later which took away all of the cancer and I was given the all clear. My SIL has a general when hers was done. I had 4 of the risk factors - T2 diabetes, slightly overweight, age and not having had children. Hope it all goes well for you next week.

I had a hysteroscopy some time ago, as a day patient. I found it uncomfortable, but nothing excessive.
The doctor had a look at my insides and found nothing at all seemed wrong - it did not resolve the problem, just removed several possible reasons for it.
