Anyone know anything about ketones NOT caused by high blood sugar?

Ever heard that phrase, "when you're in a deep hole, stop digging."? This is a T1 thread, there's been discussions recently about how non-T1s should be very careful about giving advice to T1s when they know f**k all about it, so take that on board.

This thread is in ask a question section of the forum, is this a type one thread? Are we not welcome.

Just to confuse matters, the poster you refer to is awaiting tests to confirm diagnosis, was started on insulin but had a reaction.

hi everyone.

@Catsymoo started this thread with some fairly urgent concerns about ketones.

Please focus on those rather than derailing into arguments and retaliating for perceived slights.
Also be aware that any further unsupportive posts by any member, of any diabetes type, will be deleted.

Hypos, an ulcer, not eating, and ketones are unpleasant enough don't you think? Catsymoo deserves a little more compassion and a lot less bickering.

The only time I had any worry with ketones was when I was in hospital with an infection on IV antibiotics. I couldn't eat because I was so sick. They found ketones in my urine and said I had to eat whether I liked it or not. But then I did have an infection so that may be why. But normally I wouldn't think ketones would be a problem unless your sugar level is high. I think if you're monitoring your levels you should be ok.

Antibiotics are not given for problems with nausea or lack of appetite or a stomach ulcer...

Antibiotics are given for a specific problem of bacteria in your small intestines only. And for this you need to have a SIBO test.-
A hydrogen breath test can be used to diagnose several conditions: H pylori infection, carbohydrate malabsorption (ex. lactose) and SIBO. Breath testing measures the hydrogen (H) & methane (M) gas produced by bacteria in the SI that has diffused into the blood, then lungs, for expiration.

Even lack of appetite may not be due to ulcer.. or the feeling of being full etc.

I would really ask the OP to speak to GP and ask for stomach investigations at a hospital.

This is important as things like gastritis and gastroparesis and bacteria should be ruled out.

Stomach ulcers can be helped and gastritis by not eating any tomatoes or onions at all.

I cannot take PPI's (and now, PPI's are being linked to causing other problems) but totally avoid tomato or onion in anything, and garlic too. This has helped my full stomach gastritis enormously. No meds at all needed and this was thanks to advice from my gastro enterologist.

Edited by mod to remove paragraph of argument.

It's just the time of year. Non-insulin users are looking forward to xmas cheese and crackers and then realising that whole show isn't that great without the crackers.

Meanwhile, we'll have a few cunning plans on the side lines about how to neck some brie on Jacobs cream crackers without dying....

Hi. I am a non insulin user. I eat crackers with my cheese! As you say, it wouldnt be the same without them. I do have to make them myself, but can deal with that. Its certainly cheaper. Good luck with the brie.

Thank you to those who have tried to get this thread on track, but we have had a number of posts (now deleted) which were more interested in keeping the argument going than addressing Catsymoo's concerns, so this thread will now be locked.

@Catsymoo, I hope you have had some help with your query, and please feel free to ask again, on another thread, if you would like further input from members.
