Anyone on the Ascend Plus trial?

I’m one month in to the randomisation phase now and convinced I’m on the placebo. All my side effects (nausea mainly) being in the run in of Semaglutide have stopped. The down side is there has been quite an upsurge in my BG levels. Now true, this has coincided with a little more indulgence over Xmas but I’m surprise by how much of a difference it has made especially to my morning levels. I clearly lost some weight on the drug but pleased today no weight gain since being on this “placebo”.

Anyone else on this and at the Randomisation phase?

Im about 2 weeks into randomisation. At first I thought was on the placebo but I feel so awful I think it’s the real thing.
I just can’t look at food. I’ve lost all interest in cooking. Which is quite difficult when you’re the family cook.
However on the plus side, I’ve lost weight.
But is it worth it?
I’m eating hardly anything. So I’m bound towards lose weight. I’m thinking of giving it a couple of weeks and see if I get over the side effects, but if they persist I probably won’t continue.

I am in the third week of placebo/ real thing. I’ve lost all interest in food which would be fine if I didn’t have to cook for my OH. I hope it wears off. I’ve lost about 12lbs.

Just started Randomisation last week. I am sure I am not on the placebo as sickness and constipation got worse. Also struggling to eat some foods. Also feeling full quite easily.
I feel the same as you. I felt different during the run in period than now. I’m onto the second week of it and I’m definitely more hungry than before and I’ve noticed the taste is completely different as well. The run in tasted horrid but the actual not so. I was hoping like the rest to be on the real thing as 5 years is a long time when your 72

Just started my 3rd bottle of the randomised tablets.
Still got reduced appetite, and losing weight (lost just under 9kg since I started on the trials).
So I am convinced I am on the Semaglutide and not placebo, will find out when I have my next HbA1C in about a month.

I know that I’m on the placebo, not only by the totally different taste when I swallow it but the return of my normal appetite. I’m still down on weight from the run ins but not losing anymore, I don't really see the point in continuing when you know.

Yes that’s how I feel. But the sickness has gone mostly and I can eat small meals. That’s after the first month of the 14mg.

Thats good to know its mostly gone. My fasting glucose is 5.8 which is much better but the morning nausea can be really awful. Grateful to be given what I believe is the real thing in randomisation as my GP has never mentioned this before.. literally only Metformin.

Just thought aid start a discussion here for anyone on the Ascend Plus trial by Oxford University.

Started my “Run In” phase yesterday and so far so good. No side affects other than fatigue. How are other folks doing?
I’m going to take part. Just waiting for my run in pack to arrive. Just had my participant card to carry with me.

Hi, I'm now on the 14mg tablets and I think mine are placebo? When taking the run-in tablets I definitely had a queasy feeling after taking them, I no longer have that. My appetite had reduced, now I'm not so sure. I'm going to give it a few months

The nausea on the placebo/14mg semaglutide is becoming unbearable. Anyone else having good days and bad days? My fasting glucose varies too - 6.6 this morning. Headache and constipation is becoming constant.

Hi , I started on the 14mg/placebo on 22/06/24. No bitter taste when taking the tablet, no nausea, no constipation, which leads me to believe I'm on the placebo

How long have you been on it? I’m on the second bottle of 14mg and I’m not feeling as bad now. But still not got a very good appetite. Sometimes I might think I can tackle a reasonable sized meal but halfway through it suddenly feel full.
Lost interest in a lot of things though.

Hi folks. Thought I’d check in to see how you are all doing if on the Trial.

I’ve just had my annual check up with the Diabetic Nurse at my GP. I was astonished to discover that they had no clue about the trial or knowledge I was on it!

Considering they actually referred me as eligible for the trial in the first place I’m staggered.

I’m also surprised that theAscend don’t seem to be asking any questions on current HBa1c or requesting any themselves. Do they get that data from some data cruncher in the system (do they exist)?

It has taken a while to get my VS levels back to my usual after sudden spikes on the Randomization.I’m convinced I’m on the placebo as my low levels at “run in” skyrocketed within days of the randomization.

My HbA1c is the same as this time last year before the trial so that is good. I’ve put on a few kilos though so working on that. I’ve read that people i Semaglutide who suddenly stop to have weight gain. Is it that? My diet hasn’t really changed - high protein low carb. My exercise is also the same 1km swim x4/5 a week plus walks. Anyway I’m on it as far as weight is concerned and limiting minimal carbs even more.

It’s tough though.

How are the rest of you doing?

I am also on the Ascend plus trial. Had no issues with the run in but am feeling quite nauseous on the actual trial. Hoping this will pass.

Hi, I’ve just started my second bottle of 7mg run in tablets and been having really bad and constant upset stomach for about a week now. Felt very exhausted and nauseous when I first started the trial, but didn’t have this side effect. Is it the result of the gradual build up of dosage? If so, dreading the doubling of dosage if I’m put on the real drug vs placebo. Also even at this stage, I feel full very quickly when eating, particularly evening meal.
