Appointment with the new DSN at GP tomorrow

So tomorrow I have my first appointment with the new nurse at my GP who is a Diabetic (apparently) rather nervous though as she looks bloody grumpy lol!!! And my GP says that she is good but hard to understand.....I think I am more nervous though due to my hba1c and the fact that I have come off pump and having to explain that to her eeekk :/ Plus I am just a mega worrier for all diabetes related appointments !!
 
I m sure you will be fine!! Was that the gp warning you dcn is a bit of toughie. Be confident you know more probably than she does. You know your body she doesn't, but I'm sure she will be lovely, so don't worry. It's terrible that apts can make you a gibbering jelly , sugar free off course lol.

Yeah bless her she said she's hard to understand, but apparently she is type 1 aswell so we shall see! Mmm strawberry flavour?
 
Did the hospital give you the pump? A GP DSN may well change insulin etc but if your hospital look after your pump you should really also be seeing them.
My Dsn at GP wouldn't put anything back on repeat script until letter from hospital... I could get the insulin etc on a one off but as under hospital care for me then my DSN at GP only has to comply with DES/QOF sign off targets so the Practice get their money... They will not over rule a Consultant. Best get a hospital appt or speak to your pump clinic to advise them....

I havent had a hospital appointment in over a year, havent seen my dsn since January, THEY DONT BOTHER WITH ME!! Which is why i dont want to see them, my friend has the same dsn as me and she says the same its so annoying! I'm in the process of changing GP though one to down the road of me as my current GP said i would be under the royal london hospital! X
 
Have you filled out the forms with your new GP?
You can choose to go to any hospital you want!! Whether its in your area or not.
I'm in the midst of moving again.. I'll be 50 miles away from my current hospital. I will not change to a different one.
If you move GP do you know which hospital they would choose for you?? If not, I would look at very closely... Google, look at their statistics for diabetics etc...

Don't your hospital team tell you at the end of your appt when you will next be seen? If you want it earlier than they say you must speak up!!

In fairness Nicola they don't keep in touch unless there's a problem which you have made them aware of, your far better off being under the care of a hospital diabetes clinic than a gp practise.

They used to always check up on me, but not now my dsn isnt even at a hospital!

Can i?? Closest hospital to me now is Newham its down the road doesnt have a very good reputation next one would be guys st thomas! How do i go about doing alll of that? Like finding the statistics etc! And nope they never say that my appointments are always very basic always have been, never see the same person when i go to hospital either which is annoying, which is why i prefer going to my GP as they know ne and its the same person! X
 
It would just be a case of asking new or old GP for a referral to Guys...you can state its nearer to your work etc as a reason. You should have the choice... You do not have to even have the hospital in the same CCG area. Like me... My hospital in one CCG area, my GP in another, and I'll be lucing in another..

Dsn at the clinic im under who had no clue about who i was or what my problem was, was told that i had to ring roche, in the end my nurse at my GP sorted it for me! X

I need to look up which one is better Newham hospital as a lot of stuff for diabetics but reputation is terrible! Guys is 10 mins on the tube for me! X
 
Guys and Charing Cross have excellent consultants and are leaders in modern technology available to type 1s.
 
Sometimes reviews etc are bad on NHS Choices purely because people like to moan but not give praise when its due.
There is a performance table for diabetes management for hospitals. I'll see if I can find links to them.

Thank you, as I think I will ask to be referred tomorrow if I can, I want the best Care I can get for when I eventually get pregnant! X
 
Ask... And give a reason like work, time off, better care for baby planning etc...
