Type 1 Are any CCG's prescribing the Freestyle Libre?

I'm currently waiting on Pan Mersey CCG to reach a decision on prescribing the Freestyle Libre and I don't know whether to be hopeful or not. Have any other CCG's decided to prescribe because I haven't heard of any?

I know that Knowsley ccg are saying it's going to be at least another 6-12 months before they even get close to a decision

Not as yet in Shropshire. I believe the diabetes team are trying to compiling a convincing case for it with the ccg but it's not available at present

Not in Cornwall yet. Although there is support for the device from the gp and nurse.

Wiltshire CCG has approved it for me. I have particularly unusual difficulties which libre partially overcomes. The CCG could see the argument and approved my case.

My consultant put forward my case with a documented with and without analysis which showed an improvement. This is documented in another thread.

I don't know if anyone else is getting it, and I don't know how or if they will review results and whether to continue prescribing. Time will tell.

My uncle has one in the London Borough of Richmond. He is type 2 on insulin, very bad control, he is disabled so physically would find it hard to test.

A libre is a LOT cheaper than having to send a nurse round to someone a few times a day to do a BG test.....

@ringi, he can't inject himself so I don't think any money saved on that front.
When I visited him his carer showed me how it worked and his blood sugar was 18, he was just about to tuck into two rounds of thick sliced wholemeal bread sandwiches! I'm an in remission pre diabetic and that would seems my bg to very high levels. I just hope his medical team do something to improve his bg levels with the info gleamed from the freestyle libre.

Good luck with that. I shouldn't generalise, but when you see the outdated advice given out by so called specialists, because it's NHS policy, and how diabetics are looked after in hospital (check out 'sliding scale insulin' and the sort of diet they offer) there's little hope of district nurses or care visitors understanding libre trends. I hope I'm wrong.

Sadly I agree, I did try and bring in the idea of his carer writing down his meals and the before and after eating readings but I don't think it's going to happen.

Can you give him a phone linked to the libre so he can get them to take a photo of all meals?

I've received a letter from my local MP today, she's sent a letter to the 'accountable officer' at the CCG to kindly ask for an update as several of her constituents have their consultant recommending it and it having been commissioned in other areas of the country.

Not a lot but something....

The Merseyside CCG met 30th January to consider funding for Freestyle Libre. My consultant was reasonably sure it would get the OK. Just waiting for notice of the decision.

Apparently my local area prescribing group met early January, then a Thames Valley committee met about a week ago and hopefully they will have decided by the end of Feb - they say they want it consistent throughout the Thames Valley, so yeah I need to contact my local CCG at the beginning of March to find out.

Leicestershire refuse to prescribe it deeming it not 'cost effective'. I wrote to my MP to follow up but no joy. So paying for it privately still and for the foreseeable
