I've recently been told I fit into the 'prediabetic' category. I'm copying this question from my other thread, so sorry to repeat myself.

I've started monitoring myself using a BG meter. My results don't seem to change a lot - I seem to be hovering around the 6 mark. I continue to record around 6.1 first thing in a morning. Still 6.1 a few hours after breakfast and before lunch. Last week, my post evening meal test (2 hours after eating) was 6.6. Before my evening meal, it dropped to around 5.6. Interestingly, last night I had a meal mainly consisting of veg and fish. Also went for a walk afterwards, then 2 hours after my meal my sugar level recorded as 5.9.

What do these results sound like? Are they good or bad?

Normal is 4 to 7, the average of that being 5.5 so i'd say they're fair to good readings.

Ok - thanks. looks Like i'ma bit high, so keep working on it. Still not sure why my morning reading is so high, i must say. Obviously doesn't have much to do with my diet...

Google "dawn phenomenon". This will explain why your morning readings are higher than you would expect.

That's interesting, not too far from my own readings, type 2, no meds LCFF diet. I'll just have to keep plugging away, and hope losing all my excess weight will eventually pay off.
Good luck Chris

Quite pleased tonight - salad/tuna/quorn etc all today, then fish, veg and baked potato. Went for a walk and 2 hours after a meal my reading was 5.2. Lowest yet:-)

Normal and diabetic blood sugar ranges
For the majority of healthy individuals, normal blood sugar levels are as follows:

  • Normal blood glucose level in humans is about 4 mM (4 mmol/L or 72 mg/dL)
  • When operating normally the body restores blood sugar levels to a range of 4.4 to 6.1 mmol/L (82 to 110 mg/dL)
  • Shortly after a meal the blood glucose level may rise temporarily up to 7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL)
For people with diabetes, blood sugar level targets are as follows:

  • Before meals: 4 to 7 mmol/L for people with type 1 or type 2
  • After meals: under 9 mmol/L for people with type 1 and 8.5mmol/L for people with type 2

Tonight before diner 4.1 for some reason but normally it's about 5.6 . 8.1 is the highest it's been so I think yours sound good to me :angelic:
