Im asking this question because I think Ive got a chest infection, I feel really rough ears hurt, chest is painful etc etc. But Im also not sure if it could have something to do with me being a check out clerk and being in contact will people every day with all their bugs etc? Im normally one of these that will go ages without getting anything, and then get something that last for ages, but lately Ive caught everything going, so Im just curious?

Yes we are but I'd imagine it's a combination of the two in your case.

I think we all go through cycles with them. I can go 4/5 years without a bad cold and then get hit by a nasty one. Some years I sail through without antibiotics, then this year it hit me full force.

I tend to leave it a couple of days to see how things progress before booking an appointment, but my specialist nurse has told me to go down at the first symptom of a cold and catch it early. Don't win do we !

No we cant Sue. I started feeling off colour on Wednesday at the same time my BS started going all over the place, but my chest only started hurting Friday night, and has been getting worse since. I worry more than normal about my chest since I had Pneumonia 4 years ago. I may not get in anyway after the Bank Holiday.

I think it all depends on the person. Ive worked in retail and a elderly care home I dont get colds or anything else. After a recent pre op and an annual diabetic check they almost seemed disappointed that I dont have anything wrong with me!

I work in a school with special needs children and I'm the one who is NEVER off ill, everyone else seems to catch all bugs going but I dont! I am diabetic and hypothyroid, so not all of us get colds and bugs, I'm glad I dont!

Thats the thing. I never used to be such a sickly being.

I think that when your immune system takes a hit with a virus or infection etc, it creates a cycle of being more prone to pick up other illnesses, and that in turn can take longer to recover. Issues such as the weather and stress can also impact on your health. By eating the right foods, resting and regular sleep I find helps.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I had the flu jab this year and I can honestly say I haven't well since I had it. I am not the only one who has said this, as several friends feel the same.

Trying to stay fit and healthy does help and so does remaining positive and cheerful. I am fighting several health problems at the moment and I know once they settle I should feel better in myself. When I am able to, I keep busy, that way I don't have time to be ill !

The last time I got a cold or most likely it was flu was in January 2006. Very sick.. Diagnosed with T2 in Nov 2007. Very sociable, even kiss people who say "I have germs" and so far so good. Had a flu jab the first year because I was scared I would get everything going around as I was a diabetic but not since.
I credit my good health to my changed diet and in particular to supplementing vitamin D3.

Remember that you were probably a diabetic months/years before you were diagnosed.

It's quite easy to put everything down to DB when in fact we all get ill on occasion, and sometimes have a run of colds etc which you will probably have done b4 diagnosis.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

There's a really nasty VIRAL cough going round at the mo. It seems to be lasting about 3 weeks! I'm prone to pleurisy etc and found sugar free ROBITUSSIN chesty cough mixture ('orrible taste!) has helped greatly. Took 3 bottles of the stuff. This is my first cough/ bad chest since diagnosed T1 last August so I would say that I've got off lightly this winter. Get well soon!

Well Ive just got back from seeing the nurse and he didnt even listen to my chest, but he took my pulse and BP with a little finger monitor, said its High, Im Tachywotever, got productive this that and Im feverish yadda yadda and yes looks like a chest infection, so hes given me some antibiotics for 7 days, and said I should take a few days off work as he doubts I feel well enough. I just hope the antibiotics work as the ones he wanted to give me Im allergic too. And anyway Im bored of feeling like this now

Some blood pressure medications make people susceptible to infection. check the leaflet with your pills.
