Are you a diabete?

I don't know what the word is or should be grammatically but, psychologically, I don't like being described as a "diabetic person". I prefer a "person with diabetes".
Probably just semantics but I feel "diabetic person" defines me as someone for who diabetes is my full life and totally defines me.
 
Definitely it should be a person with ...... Person first and foremost
 
I'm not sure one rule applies to both words. Apathy is a=without and pathos=emotion. So the the one word is made up of two.
Diabetes is, I beleive, the Greek word for siphon (and Mellitus means sweet). Just the one word.
This is just how I see it, never studied Greek, ancient or modern.

Anyhoo, I have Diabetes. It doesn't define me.
 
The peculiarities of the English language! Some one with asthma is asthmatIC, someone with anaemia is anaemIC, someone with dyslexia is dyslexIC, someone with autism is autistIC, someone with schizophrenia is schizophrenIC, and so on. However some one who is athletic is an athlETE, someone who is..... nah can’t think of another ‘ete’ example. As I say the peculiarities of the English language. Whether you’re a diabetic or someone with diabetes is another discussion, personally I don’t mind being either.

I'm diabetic and asthmatic and was once anaemic. No-one could ever accuse me of being athletic though

Ha ha! I’m similar, diabetic, asthmatic and arthritic, but defo not athletic OR apathetic!
 
Can’t work out if I’m a diabetic with autism or autistic with diabetes now.
