Are you a person of faith?

I worship Dr. Seuss i love fictional books, wink wink.

That implication assumes all faiths and beliefs are associated with a book or books . Not so.

Having said that, there is a lot of wisdom to be found in Dr. Seuss ;) and many gave their religion in the 2001 census as " Jedi Knight " . Which to me says that in everything there is a lesson to be found , and some commonality between most faith paths at core. Even an Atheist path .

I was referring to the religions that are! They seem to cause so many conflicts in the world - homophobia, sexism, terrorism to name a few.

However saying that, if religion didn't exist it would just present itself in a different form i assume.

Worth remembering that Pol Pot Hitler Stalin weren't killing in the name of religin or a God.
Sad bit is they had religious supporters.

My point was that faith and belief are not synonymous with " Religion " . Your last sentence exactly ties in with what I was saying.

There does seem to be a huge problem for humanity based on mankinds interpretation of the written word in " Religions of the Book " , and those interpretations can be quite selective ;) . As there is no absolute proof that those words came from any divine being, it's logical that they were written by humans. Humans being flawed and not able to be without bias , it presents itself as a perfect excuse for atrocity where an excuse is needed. That is organised religion at it's worst.

Faith and belief on the other hand, do not necessarily have to be tied to any religion. It's possible to have faith and belief in The Great Green Goblin, and gain much from that.;) It would seem that belief in something, even if that belief is that nothing exists at all, is hard wired in to humankind.

I believe in facts. I have faith in science!, does that count? Haha.
Science changes like the wind.
Look at food science for starters.
Changes like the wind .... on health matters too.
In fact the good thing about science is it never stops changing .... the bad news is what you believed yesterday because of science is rubbish compared to today's science which in turn will be rubbished by tomorrows.

Change is human nature - its another word for evolution.

Faith in a Divine Being, in whatever form, provides a base which does not change, and which many find comforting in our ever changing, ever evolving world.

Only by having solid base-points can one measure how far something has changed, be it morals, money, or whatever

The 10 commandments are a great reference point, even for a non believer like myself.

How solid a base-point is a belief in a mythical/divine being?
You believe it's mythical but millions believe otherwise .... many based on the evidence.

The fact their is no evidence it exists proves it doesn't, unless you're being totally irrational.

Excellent ..... a reply :) .... please do not take offence at the following :

OK, iScream are you married ? Do you have a girlfriend ? Children perhaps or domestic animals ? You certainly have parents

Do you love them ? You may say - and indeed I hope - that you do.

If so, prove it.

Show me something physically tangible which I can touch and feel which proves to me your love for someone else

Your love for, and belief in them is like others belief in & love of their God.

You can say you love them and tell me you love them, yet you cannot tangibly prove it to me if I stand before you alone. You cannot give me someting 'real' which I can hold and say "Yes, this evidence physically proves beyond doubt ....."

So by your own statement, is your love for others also irrational ?

And if so, does your love for others exist at all .... or are you just lying ? ?

Peace :)

The evidence as many scientists believe points to intelligent design.

Hi folks,:)

Before reading this, I would request you to read the following statement from my sig.

"The reader of the written word may, on occasion, be unable to determine the attitude behind the writer of the written word.
On those occasions, adoptive positivity very often calms the undecided mind"

OK, deep breath, here we go. :)

Blaming "Religion", Christianity in particularly, (it's the only faith I would comment on) for all the daily evilness,
wrongs, bad and or negative effects occurring globally, is like blaming motor vehicles for all the millions of deaths,
sadness of loss, terrible and shocking injury's, without first attempting to answer the question of why motor vehicles
are causing all the misery in the first place.
It's not the "vehicle" that's at fault, it's the fault of the driver's of those vehicles who cause all the shocking aftermath of accidents.
When did these drivers last read and study the "Highway Code" manual in order to ensure themselves their driving standards
are as they should be, as written in the Driving Manual.

To accuse Christians of anything, the Bible (Manual) must first be studied in order to determine if Christians are conducting
themselves as written in the (life's) Manual.
Then, accusations can be made against those who believe the Bible is man's (life) Manual, and who are guilty of not
putting into practice, the warnings and instructions that are written in that manual.

As a footnote, Christians are not saints, and certainly not perfect human beings. There will be people of the Christian faith
who are most assuredly guilty of wrongdoing and they must, just like everyone else in this world, pay a penalty for any misdeeds knowingly or unknowingly carried out by them.
