Get down to Boots and buy an Atkins wafer bar - just like a Kit-Kat...

(Now - when they create a Lo-Carb Boost/Star Bar I'll be a happy man!)

Have one then.... count the CHO, work out your bolus and bolus it (be it with a pen or pump). Being diabetic means doing things in moderation, not never at all.

Vikki,

Be a little devil had have that kit kat, as barkbark says just cover with a little insulin. I don't want chocolate biscuits much now, but if I had the urge like you have, it would have been devoured long before now!

Yep, if it was winding me up this much, i'da had one by now.
The stress will do more long term damage than a kit-kat.

Have a kit-kat, go for a walk to where you buy it. That's my deal with myself... if i want one, i buy one at a time from the shop and i walk.

i didn't have the kit kat :o), i wouldn't know where to start if i tried to cover it with more insulin, still a bit clueless at that ...lol xx

I'll tell you what is absolutely gorgeous, the galaxy ripple bars, similar to a flake. Very small and only about 18g of carbs too! :D

As a self confessed chocaholic my advice is don't go near ANY type of chocolate; either the regular stuff, Atkins bars or any other real chocolate substitute.

It's like any other addiction, you can't even have one - just like the current storyline on Corrie with Ken Barlow's alcoholic son, Peter.

I used to consume loads of chocolate and loved kit kats - problem was, I could never just have one. I bought the largest multi packs I could find in the supermarket then proceeded to eat the entire packet.

Having not touched any chocolate for over a month and gone onto a low carb, meat, fruit and veg eating regime I can honestly say my sweet tooth has subsided. HOWEVER, I know that if I had "just one" kit kat, my old sugar cravings would re appear.

IMO, it's just not worth it.

I think the secret is what you wrote - just buy ONE not a pack of them!! (Why deny yourself something you enjoy - everything in moderation! Otherwise you just make yourself miserable denying yourself stuff you want all the time)

I miss Spiras - I loved them, the ones with holes in them so you could bite the ends off, and suck your tea/coffe thru them and eat them slightly melted!! :P

bufferz,

Precisely, everything in moderation!

A little indulgence from time to time is good. I like the 85% Finest Dark Chocolate from Aldi, each individual 25g bar contains just 5.4g of carbs. As a rule, the higher the cocoa content, the less carbs.

Off to fridge now to get a bar! :D

Disagree entirely guys.

Chocolate is full of all the stuff that diabetics MUST avoid, therefore, why on earth put yourselves in harms way?

What is the point in watching what you eat, calorie counting, carb counting or whatever other regime you have chosen to control your betes, to then spoil all your hard work and determination by weakening your resolve and giving into temptation in one moment of weakness? :?

I admit there are some dark chocolates out there that are diabetic friendly, plus some diabetic chocolate too I believe. However, as a self confessed chocoholic I dare not even look at these as I know it could potentially unravel all my hard work and discipline. I already had neuropaty, kidney and eye problems before my T2 was diagnosed, so I value my health too much now to succumb to the temptations of a chocolate bar, which I know if I eat will not only adversely affect my health, it will leave me feeling racked with guilt and remorse afterwards; thus totally ruining the pleasure of eating it in the first place.

Altho' I'm still teetotal for the time being I fully intend to resume drinking whisky and red wine once and only once I have my BG under control (7 or under). Even then, I will not even consider looking at ANY form of sweets or chocolate bars, otherwise what has it all been for???

I appreciate I'm T2 and not T1 and it must be particularly hard for young people to have to avoid chocolate with all the advertising and sexy sweetie products constantly "in their face", but as a middle aged guy I've probably already consumed more chocolate products than your average "Joe" would have done in a lifetime anyway.
