My mother remembered her part in the very first 2 minute silence when she was 6.

She was out with her little sister, pushing iron wheeled dolls' prams along the cobbled street.

Suddenly, everything & every one stopped.
Horses, carts & people, everything - except 2 little girls & their noisy prams - & all the grown-ups saying shhhhhhh!

Please God, restrain the forces of evil who wage wars around the earth;
support the victims of war, & their families;
may the good news of Jesus - Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men be heard around the world.

It came upon the midnight clear,
that glorious song of old,
from angels bending near the earth
to touch their harps of gold:
‘Through all the earth, good will and peace
from heaven’s all-gracious King!’
The world in solemn stillness lay
to hear the angels sing.

2. With sorrow brought by sin and strife
the world has suffered long
and, since the angels sang, have passed
two thousand years of wrong:
the nations, still at war, hear not
the love-song which they bring:
O hush the noise and cease the strife,
to hear the angels sing!

This will be an extra special Remembrance Sunday for me. My youngest son is taking part in his first ever parade with cadets.

May God protect him, & our youngsters in the forces who are seeking to use their strength to bring peace wherever they are serving.

Years ago (at least 9 years ago) I had the honour of, when on a holiday in Northern France, going to the Thiepval Memorial. Very solemn place, and if I remember correctly I did get emotional walking around. Very moving. We also went to a replica of Helen's Tower in Clandeboye too. Went to lots of memorials on that holiday.

Also, when we were out and about one time, we spotted a roadside memorial, and on it was one of my relatives. That was a very strange feeling to come across that 'randomly.'

Anyways, my two cents!

I believe the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas, Staffs does a remembrance service every day at 11.00. It's a very beautiful and moving place to visit.
