hi, i have stopped taking low dose aspirin following advice from a consultant.now my gp wants to restart me on them,im confused i understand the reasons for taking them but i want to know if the risks outweight the benifits :)

There are risks and possible side effects with most meds, but you would need to know why the meds were prescribed in the first place to evaluate if the benefits outweigh any risk by taking it.

I was prescribed 150mg of dispersable aspirin daily for cardiovascular reasons and to counteract any digestive tract problems I also take the proton pump inhibitor lansaprazole.
To get technical, aspirin slows the production of sticky platelets in the blood and therefore reduces the clotting factor, and for me, after several TIA's some years ago, aspirin is a risk worth taking.

Hi foreman and welcome to the forum. :)

I’m afraid your question is a bit like “How long is a piece of string” since we really know nothing about you and your medical condition on which to base our answers.
It would depend on what reasons your consultant has for stopping the aspirin and what reasons your GP has for wanting you to restart you on them and what the risks are for you personally.

My GP took me off Aspirin, having forgotten i'm a stroke survivor. Now he's put me back. What I really want him to do is realise I don't need Statins and stop pushing them.

i had a phone consultation with my gp and he decided there was no benificial reason for me to carry on with the aspirin as i have no cardiovascular problems. all my other meds are fine for now just tweek the humalog a little but on the whole my levels are between 7-9. thanks for the answers though,i have asked my dsn to enroll me on the next available dafne course because i think i will benefit from it.
