Hi all, me again, has anyone had any experience of the Atkins range of products? Since the are virtually low carb and sugar free (high protein) would the be OK to use in moderation, for instance their breakfast bars are per bar 2.1g net carb 0.4 g sugar and 12g protein, has anyone tried them? Thanks, Vicky

Not has the breakfast bars, buti do have the snack bars, chocolate coconut one is my favourite, has no impact on my ate all,but I only ever have treats like this or anything with a little more carbs than usual at lunchtime,I seem to able to cope well mid day for this type of thing. Morning are not so great as body is dumping and this may not help.

Thanks, I will bear that in mind, it was more of a bit of something sweet with a morning coffee or afternoon tea thing, half a bar would suffice, I will experiment!! :D

If you eat too many of them it won't just be in the morning that you'll be worrying about "dumping". And I'm not talking about the liver kind, if you catch my drift.

 very true, I don't eat them a lot, just occasional sweet treat.

Usually cut up into 1/3rds.

You might be better off with protein bars sold at "health food" stores - Atkins bars use the standard trick of replacing sugars with polyols for sweetness and bulk, which has the laxative effect borofergie has alluded too. With a bit of luck, you might be able to find protein bars that are low in carbs *and* polyols (at the expense of bulk, obviously).

If you like sweet things try the CHOCOLATE PARADISE thread on the low carb diet page. Some lovely bits there. I have tried the Almost Bounty bars and the Rocky Road. Both are lovely and Ive just had my mates husband asking me to make him some Rocky Road, he certainly isn't low carbing but loves it!

Not tried them but agree that your better making your own, I'd imagine the Atkins bars are much like any other highly processed junk.

Yes I know exactly where you are coming from after eating one today, how do peeps cope with that side effect if they eat a lot ha ha, I should have known.... I had to cut out sugar free sweeties and jams for the same reason, oh well, when you think about it they can'y possibly be good, better having the odd rich tea biscuit or almond biscuit!!! :lolno:
