Average BG and Hba1c

3 months of morning bloods of 4 - 4.5 put my HbA1c at 32 with a non fasting blood test. I dont think my bloods go over 6 through the day ( breakfast and something around 4 o clock) as i only eat twice a day

Depends what your bloods do when you are not testing.
Overnight.
Delayed meal response to some things, especially a mix of carbohydrates and fats.
Dip and rise (or vice versa) during exercise.

This is why some people use a Freestyle Libre to check what the bloods are doing over a 24 hour period.
Having said that, my Libre estimates are way lower than my HbA1c results.

I think if you're eating a diet (e.g. low carb/keto) that keeps your glucose levels pretty stable then you are more likely to see some relationship between average glucose levels and HbA1c. This tends to be what I see although my meter (elderly Contour Next) predicted results are a little lower than my actual HbA1cs, though the patterns are consistent between the two. (However with averages it's also possible to get the same results both with steady figures and with highs and lows which can average out.)

When I was using a Libre, I saw consistent patterns between my meter average predictions, Libre predictions, and actual HbA1cs. But Libre predictions were way lower (as @LittleGreyCat sees) and put me firmly in non diabetic range.

The after meal levels, which theoretically should be the highest levels, which I see, would indicate a Hba1c in the 30s but I get numbers in the 40s, so there isn't always a 'correct' ratio.

I did use Libre 2 CGM, but my a1c was quite off than the lab as well as using the finger pricks. My labs show around 30, whereas my Libre calculated it at 37 (but i was trying with high carb diet during that time as well). However, it still should not have gone to 37 I guess. Libre readings were always about 1 mmol more than my finger pricks.

I have CKD so HbA1c is unreliable in my case problem have been relying on it for several years not knowing that so probaly would be better off using averages of finger pricks or libre readings.

I totally agree that certain medical conditions distort the results, and bgs are more useful (if you do enough) but if you are just comparing to previous results they could be useful...

I think my dexcom has just changed the algorithm so you need a lower average to achieve the same hba1c. Having said that, I think it was underestimatimg before....

Do you have a reference for that, please?

CKD at various levels seems to be a part of both age and T2D.
