Hi.
I was diagnosed type 1 last year after being treated for several years for type 2 ( result of gad blood test confirmed I was type 1) I am now on Humalog 25 mix insulin. I am waiting to see my specialist but in the mean time trying to work out if I'm doing ok.
My average reading on my monitor is around 9.5. How will this relate to my h1ac test and is it too high?

An average reading of 9.5 on your meter should be around an hbac1 of 60 mmol/mol Although as for the reasons stated above, this may not be an accurate picture.

Did you get Libre sensor from nhs? My readings fluctuate a lot too. Ranging from 4 to 12 or sometimes higher. I only test pre meals and before bed.

It will be helpful to keep a diary to take to your specialist. You need to finger prick four times a day, rather than just rely on your Libre. So record your before breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime blood sugars, insulin dosing and food, for the specialist to have a look at and make suggestions.
The DAFNE targets are 5-7 mmol/L waking, 4-7 mmol/L before meals, 5-9 mmol/L before bed. This should give you an HbA1c between 6%-7% three months later.

Thankyou. I don't actually have a Libre but will keep diary to show specialist from finger pricking and record of food eaten.

Hello,
@ert I don't think OP has a libre. It is difficult with those targets because OP isn't on a basal/bolus regime. Mixed insulin doesn't give OP that flexibility to correct if numbers are high. So I suspect her hba1c will be a tad high.
@Twirywoo Regarding your hba1c, I wouldn't worry too much because this will give your consultant or diabetes team something to work with. Have you looked into basal/bolus regime? It might be better suited towards your management and better hba1c. It is a lot more work but it gives you that room to correct high numbers and adjust your insulin for whatever carbs are in your meals. As for the libre, there is a criteria for it which is testing more than 8 times a day. However a high hba1c might be applicable in that matter. It is up to your consultant at your hospital and your CCG. I know there are some areas in England are not prescribing it yet.

Thankyou MeiChanski. Lots of useful information there. Basal bonus has been mentioned to me as an option. I was hoping I could keep it under control with Humalog mix but realise this might not be the case so I'll see what consultant says.
