Good evening Everyone,

Feeling very anxious and thought it might help to talk. I've been peeing a lot and feeling sick over the last few days. I had a blood test for diabetes on Friday and am now waiting for the results, due by Tuesday. Since my test I've cut out sugar and reduced my carbs. I bought a test kit on Friday and my blood sugar was 6.5 on Saturday morning and 6.2 this morning. Usually around 5.8 two hours after a meal. I'm guessing that I do have diabetes as the numbers are quite high even after changing my diet. Trying not to stress out or blame myself as I've put on a lot of weight this year. Not sure what questions to ask when I have my appointment to get my results as I'll be going on my own and think I may be flustered and overwhelmed. So thought I'd write some questions down before hand. Does anyone have any suggestions at all? Thanks for listening all.

Waiting for medical results can be so stressful. I hope time goes fast and you feel better after getting the info.

First of all calm down, those numbers are not high. When you say feeling sick, do you mean nauseous.
5.8 2 hours after a meal shows a good Insulin response, although it would be better if you knew what it was before you stared eating.
You say you changed your diet but how, what did you change.

Welcome @Lolie
First thing you need to do is take a deep breath and try not to second guess your dr's diagnosis.
The results from your finger prick tests are not massively high, many of us would be pleased to get a fasting level of 6.5.
Our blood sugar levels are not particularly stable everyone's levels constantly move up and down all day, including non diabetic people. That's why they are not used for diagnostic purposes, for that they use the Hba1c, which measures how much glucose has attached to the blood cells throughout their lifetime, so it's a sort of 12 week average.
If you are diagnosed, the bottom line is that you are eating more carbs than your body can handle.
The main culprits are cereal, bread, rice, pasta, starchy veg and fruits. Sounds like there is nothing left but by using your meter, testing before you eat and again 2hrs after, and keeping any rise to less than 2mmol. you will discover what you need to cut out and what is ok if you just cut back on portion sizes.
We are al different and your meter will help you design a diet that suits you

Hi @Lolie, welcome to the forum. To jump aboard @catinahat's reply, my fasting readings were in the 15s when I was diagnosed, and anything up to high 17s after a meal, so try not to let your levels stress you out too much. With some simple changes and help from the wonderful people around here, it's possible to get back on track if needed.

Wait and see what the results say and let us know. Take care of yourself and just shout if you have any questions/worries. Don't feel like anything is too silly to ask, odds are most of us have felt or experienced anything you're going through at one point or another!
