According to the article, hypos and hypo unawareness warrant having an islet cell transplant. The new beta cells reduce the need for exogenous insulin. But then immune suppressant drugs have to be taken. The treatment is very onerous, especially with the current threat of novel viral disease. Low carbing is a much easier way to reduce exogenous insulin and achieve similar benefits.
