Hi, does anyone know if there are specific babysitting services/sites that support and would babysit for our 5yo Type 1 for evenings?
Mother in law refuses to take responsibility for managing our youngest Type 1 which means babysitting is out of the question. Other grandparent is happy to have him/ look after him, but that means all the responsibility falls upon them if we want a night out/away.
We've arranged training, guidance of management of T1 and left them in a completely stable state - all they had to do was Finger prick, but it's met with denial. They won't commit to finger pricking, let alone administering Insulin if he's asleep or even awake and needs a top up. I'd actually worry if it got to that point, even the T1 knows, what to do more than she does.

So I've had enough and am looking at paying a qualified person for when we go out, but struggling to find a suitable site - do they exist? Was thinking a nurse or suitably medically trained person that is happy to administer a quick jab if needed or happy to test if needed would be suitable.

We live in Junc 3 of M25 area.
Thanks

I struggled for care for my son with autism who was very easy to look after but could have his moments - I wanted someone who understood autism - you can go to a private company providing care - there will be loads around you - but be warned it's not cheap -at least £14 per hour - even more if you expect somebody to inject insulin - I was paying private for my dad before he went into a care home and that was £25 per hour.

Please don't be hard on some family not wanting to be caregivers - it's a great responsibility - sometimes as a parent you have to accept that you can't always do what you would like - me and my hubby have had 3 nights away alone in 22 years and they are never more than half an hour drive away

Why not ask at the clinic he attends?

In my local area there is a great group of parents who meet regularly, whilst their children are at their T1s choir practise. The singing I swear just the common activity to bring folks together. There's also a T1 sports group that does all manner of stuff.

If such a group existed near you, there are at least a couple of dozen capable experienced parents who might be able to help, in return for some reciprocal support.

Just a thought.

Hello @Tipster78 A friend who works as a nanny looked after a t1 girl for over a year, she wasn't medically trained however took it upon herself to learn about the management of it and what to be aware of and this included communication with parents about her care. From what I know you will find it hard to locate someone with the knowledge to manage this, however that doesn't mean to say that you can find a good nanny who is prepared to take it on board and follow guidelines set and agreed with between yourselves.

Yes we have a local chat group for sharing and chatting on things. It's not a massive number, but is growing as the hospital lets newly diagnosed we exist. It's something I have raised in passing before. I may now push it a bit harder.

You could trade with your own time babysitting or other goodwill acts.
