Well I am now as confused as I was when first told I was diabeteic :?
I saw my Dsn on Wed past and she was pleased with my progress.
Saw my Dr today who was not happy at all, he said the drop from 12.6 to 10.2 on my HbA1c was not sufficient enough and after humming and harring he said that if I did not get my HbA1c down to at least 7 within the next 6 months he will have to consider putting me on insulin.
Who do I listen to here?
The fact that the first HbA1c test was June 09 and I was not diagnosed as Diabetic then, the next test was a week and a half ago, now as far as I am aware the tests need to be at least 3 months apart, so how can Dr say he was unhappy with test result that was only done week and a half ago??
The fact that I have drastically change my diet, lost 2 stone since Nov 09 and have taken control of my Bg testing and management made no difference.
My daughter was angry with Dr's attitude and said that she now understood why I get despondant at times.
What more can I do that I have not already done?

seems quite a jump straight to insulin mate.....what about the glitazones family of medication? Im on Actos, and once on it my numbers dropped by a couple of percent, and that was before I dieted and exercised properly

First of all SB you are doing really well! :D

You have got 6 months to prove to this doctor that you can drop your Hba1c to 7...you know what.....I think you will pass with flying colours. In the time you have been here you have changed your diet and taken control of your diabetes.

Get a referral to an Endocrinologist and do not take this kind of talk from your doctor, get yourself another, sympathetic, doctor.

Sounds like the DN is the one to listen to,discuss your concerns with her.

SB – Don’t get disheartened, you have done really well. :D

That doctor sounds as if he was having a bad day and was not firing on all cylinders. As Sugarless Sue says get a referral and don’t allow yourself to be bullied like that. Grrrr!!

It is a good idea to have someone with you sometimes, I always take my husband as I need him to be my memory man and it has proved invaluable. Good job your daughter was with you as that gives you corroboration as well as sympathy for the treatment you received.

In any case you have 6 months to get the numbers to where you want them and no doubt you can do that given your current progress and your background of self-discipline will help you there. 8) As I understand it I don’t think the doctor can force you to take insulin but you can certainly insist on a second opinion.

your improvement is great,
im sure that within 6mnths you will have reached your target, listen to your dn as they have been taught about diabetes :)

Hi SB,
looks like your GP has not taken all of the facts on board. You are doing all the right things now and definitely WILL see HUGE improvements. There are loads of us on here who have achieved a 4 to 5 point drop in HBA1C in less than 6 months, so you will blow 7 out of the water by your next review!!!

Steve.
