Hello,

So I was just wondering about the different types of background insulin's and what people use?! I use Levemir twice a day when I'm not pumping! I know of Lantus as well but are there any others??? x

A list was posted recently, but in order of price:

Degludec (Tresiba)
Concentrated Glargine (Toujeo)
Detemir (Levemir)
Glargine (Lantus)
Biosimilar Glargine (Abasaglar)*
NPH Isophane available in many different names and brands (Humulin, Insulatard, etc)

*Price unknown at this point - assumed to be cheap.

I used Levemir twice a day too before the pump.......

what do you mean you use Levemir when your not pumping.........?

do you only pump when you feel like it......

...... Or Levemir for a bit of change from the pump? Mix it up a little...

Hahah no lol...but I think I am going to go back to injections, I had an issue with pump consumables a little while back and did quite well on injections and theres just little things that I can't stand anymore! I have an appointment to talk about it but was just wondering if I could use a different basal! x

In that case. I'll tag @donnellysdogs I think she has come off the pump & gone back to good ol MDI...

I talk to Sharon anyway haha! Not spoken in a while though....the thing is I know I can cope on injections like deep down, it's just me if that makes sense???

What was the issues with consumables? you couldn't get them.....?

its not common but some do go back to injections.........mental.....lol

I ordered at the start of July week later they didn't come so I rang them didnt have a record of my order...placed it again week later again still no consumables so I ring them again, to be told it was arriving the next day...my order didn't actually arrive for another 2 weeks, but I have been happier in myself on injections bizarre I know because the pump helped my control but I have let myself slip and my hba1c rose back up to 80, so I know it's me not the insulin, it's all down to me!

Yeah, pumping actually demands more time and effort, something not a lot of people realize.......

what pump you got?

Also, the running out during the night and having to change that, hated it, I was just fed up! I guess it's taken two years to realise it's not actually for me! And the fact that I now want to start a baby will motivate me soo much!! And accu-chek combo! You? x

I use Humalin I, have done for 15 years now. Once a day at about 9pm

Do wonder though if there would be any benefit to spliting the dose, or a different insulin, as I understand Humalin I is only really has an 18-20 hour effect.

Hey Nicola!!!
Glad you're back on line with forum.....
Don't know why but my levels are just as good on jabs..
Still on levemir as I can tweak daily to my working or not working etc. Can't do that with tresiba (degludec).
Splitting dose and having a morning bolus before Inget out of bed works well for me.
You still need to see what happens to bloods as if you were still on pump. Have you got an accuchek expert meter?

Have you got new pens? And also 1/2 unit pens?

I went back to mdi and one pen had been recalled!! And they do actually have limited life. I think for me the 1/2 unit pens have made a huge difference. My friendly chap at accuchek also sent me a 1/2 unit bolusing expert meter. Even my old back up meter was ****!!

Confirmed.. I would not go back to pump... However I'm way tooooo old for trying for a baby.

Get your bloods down girlie..xx

I'm going to whatsapp you instead can talk to you more on there!!xx

Oh and I still have the pump and meter.... But got a poxy gluconexus I don't like it but GP wants all diabetics to use that as it's cheaper *sigh*

The only insulin I have ever been on is novo mix 30 which never worked and levemir now!

Make sure Nicola that yr GP prescribes enough teststrips as getting pregnant you will definately need to test a lot. Can you ask to be transferred back to the care of a diabetes consultant as that is where you should be really.

How's the back and how's the new dwelling?

Does the gluco nexus do bolus info?
If you asked consultant for an expert meter and strips because this allows you good bolysing info etc for wanting a baby they would probably do it. The GP should really as bolysing correct carb ratio's etc is easier on a meter than in your head,,,

Nope it's just a bog standard blood glucose meter I'm having to use the pump meter to calculate correctly! I'm seeing the nurse at my Doctors Monday she's diabetic and new so hopefully she sympathises with me!
