Hello Everyone, I'm new to pumping and hope you can help, my bg is high overnight, starts rising around 8pm comes down 8am, my rates are midnight-3am-0.500 units and 3am-8am is 0.600 units, my question is do I go up in 0.025 so that I change them from 0.500 to 0.525 etc, sorry for sounding so thick I just need to know if this is a safe way of doing changes as I haven't done them before, thank you

And if it starts rising from 8pm then you need to Increase your basals 2 hours beforehand so from 6pm!

Always check if you're unsure. It would depend how high you're going as to how much you put them up, but always best to be cautious.

You may also want to look at adding more time blocks. From memory, I have 6 during the night as I have a gradual insulin increase to cope with the Dawn Phenomenon.

I have pretty much one every hour haha

I'm on Medtronic 640g, I think my basal rates are wrong, I'm high in the night and low from breakfast to lunch, I will take my time changing them and will add more time slots in, thank you

Hi Debbie, please just make one change at a time, I have learnt that it's best to see how this goes for 3 days before making any new changes. I am also on the 640g.

Also try some basal testing, you can alternate these so one day try a morning then another day try afternoon, this is perfect for working out what's going on ;)

the dose you are suggesting is very sma and will make minor changes. If you are going very high then you will need a much higher addition. I would speak to your diabetic nurse for guidance while starting as they will have helped set it up for you. I know I did that and my nurse laughed and said that it would not do anything. We are all different so just give them a ring.

Can you get your nurse to put you on a CGM for a week and get some basal testing done? That's what I have been doing and it's tsken around 6 months to get all my levels sorted. My last CGM was really good, nice straight steady lines for basal tests. :-) Please speak with your nurse/doc before you make any changes.
