No, nothing during.

Nothing at all? I've just eaten a bowl of salad leaves with cheese and mayo as I was hungry. I thought the nurse had said it was fine to eat carb free foods, but maybe I misheard her.

Even carb free foods cause a raise, specially when eaten without carbs/insulin. Body still digests them to turn to energy (sugar) very little in some, more notable in others. Either way, re test tomoz eating nothing as may skew your results.

Awh ******. :( Abandoning the test and going to have a bowl of cereal now! I missed out on a tasty lasagne for dinner earlier, that will teach me to listen better.

Basal testing over the time this forum started has mentioned celery, small amounts of lettuce, water cress and sugar free jelly as being okish, so unless a consultant or dsn has advised nothing, then its ok to eat carb free food as long as it doesnt contain loads of protein.

No food whatsoever if you want to do the test right, otherwise the results will be skewed.

What do people do after basal testing with regards to drinking cups of tea over the course of 16hrs while awake? I would need to inject a bolus for every cup of tea that I drank (I drink about 8 cups per day) and I am definately not going to do that, I would rather count the drinks as part of the basal.

Makes sense, though I do drink black coffee but, on occasion do have one with.milk, which, I do bolus for. if I had to bolus for every one I drank would probably do as you do.

Never bolus for tea or coffee, there's so few carbs that it would be impossible to bolus for even with a half unit pen, is it because you like your drinks milky or is it because caffeine raises your bg.

But, did you still have your tea
Or coffee during your basal tests lol. I find I need 0.5 units for a regular coffee, not very milky.

Sorry Brett my reply was to iHs but you posted before me, I should have quoted her post.

I don't drink tea or coffee during a basal test as per the article that CarbsRok posted above, normally I drink decaff tea & coffee and like it strong with just a dash of milk, so bg wise it has little effect.

There's about 2g carb in the milk for each cup of tea so on a pump I would need to bolus if I didnt count the cuppas in the basal.

So that's about 40ml of milk for each cup, that's what I would call milky tea, but appreciate why you need to bolus for it iHs.

Always drink normal copious amounts of tea and coffee during my basal testing.

The thing that I reckon is... They are part of my normal living... Food times and qtys change... My coffee drinking doesn't. If I basal test without my normal intake of coffee my basal testing would give totally skewed readings.

My food is the main variety in my life with times of eating, and what I eat so providing my basals are set to levels including my copious beverages then I can effectively go 24 hours without eating..

If I am ever sick or unwell, nothing has yet stopped me drinking beverages, so I am better off for keeping them in my basal testing plan..
