BD Microfine 4mm - Bad batch?

Is it possible to have a "bad batch" of needles? It seems that out of the blue, the box I'm currently using has some bad needles in. They almost feel barbed as they go in and occasionally draw blood. Maybe 1 in 3 are hurting quite badly whilst the others glide in. I'm rotating sites etc and it's not the injection, just the insertion of the needle. Has anyone else had this? It's like Russian Roulette :)

I've had the odd needle that was painful but certainly not as high as 1:3. Perhaps take them back to the pharmacy and request a swap ?

Yeah I think I will, I have another box unopened, I'll check to see if there's a batch number and if it's different I'll open that and try it then return this current box. I just thought I'd ask on here if anyone had the same experience as I'd have thought that the manufacturing tolerances would have been too strict to have facilitated a bad batch.

Hi G2ADY - you CAN ring 01865 748844 and quote the box serial number/code and explain your issues
This is BD customer care helpline number .

I once had very similar problem .
Think it was not enough lubrication agent on the needles . 'ouch' !

I'm having a similar issue. But I had put that down to being unwell and therefore being overly sensitive.

I've just opened a new box this morning so hopefully that will solve the problem!

Good to know that I'm not imagining it then. Cheers all, I'll contact them :)

I think I may be experiencing the same issue as well!

Some of my needles I don't even feel and can't believe that it's in! But other ones I try to put in and it hurts so bad that I need to take it back out!. I rotate areas also, so I can't blame it on that lol!.

That's exactly the same as what I'm experiencing too.

Dominic Littlewood highlighted some potential counterfeit needles that 'appeared' genuine to the naked eye but were substandard imports that had slipped the net and made it into some UK pharmacies and reported issues with using them were very similar to your experience of painful injections and bleeding although I'm not sure what make needles these were-definitely worth taking them back to the pharmacy you got them from so they can look into it.

Wow really?

If I remember right It first came to light due to a 5 year old girl who normally coped with her injections very well-suddenly started crying and screaming when having her jabs after her parents had collected a prescription of new needles and the pharmacist spotted a subtle difference between them and the genuine article after the parents returned them.

When you hear the word counterfeit you automatically think of Rolex Watches or GHD straighteners. You'd never imagine coming across counterfeit needles would you?

I was very surprised too and Dominic was particularly annoyed as a type 1 insulin user himself.

Your needles are BD Microfine 4mm as topic headed here .
Hi Anna,

Of course, I opened a new box today and so far they seem fine. I've emailed the manufacturer but not had a response as yet. I'll take the open box to the chemist on Monday to see what they advise. I'll update this thread with any update.

I've had the same problem-I use 4mm and pretty much all of mine have been drawing blood. A lot of them have been painful too but I just put this down to my tummy sore from continuous injections-I'll try a new box too and see if that's any different :)
