Hello fellow sweetbloods!

I'm supposed to take my Metformin tablets with every meal. My doctor is vague as to what time is optimal: just before starting the meal, during the meal, or after the meal?

What method has the best results for getting my blood glucose lowered, are there any side effects of taking it before meal vs after, etc?

Thank you

I have strict instructions not to explain the working of Metformin as I understand them - but it is a long lasting drug.
If you wish to lower your blood glucose, eat fewer carbs.
I found the side effects horrendous, no matter how or when taken, so do read the information included in the packaging.

Ordinary metformin has a half life of about 6 hours and will be undetectable in the blood within 24 hours. That isn't 'long lasting' at all in my humble opinion. A week long course of benzodiazapines, for example' will still be detectable a whole year later, now that is truly long lasting.
I wrote a fairly long post about dosing regimes in a thread called 'Metformin and LCHF diet in Diabetes Medication and Drugs/Metformin and Biguides if that helps.
'With food' generally means at the same time as so immediately before, during or immediately after all work the same without any great difference.
Great name by the way.
