As type one is a non or partially working pancreas, which produces insulin, I would think insulin injections. I tried it blindfolded and the beauty is it's very easy. To measure the dosage, the plunger clicks exactly one time per unit, so that blind or visually impaired people can administer doses. How she would check her blood sugar is a mystery. I know I'm not blind or a guide dog owner, but I do wear glasses and have rubbish sight without them. You are a very caring and intelligent dog

Do CGM monitors come with an audible warning as without a full time carer there is no way to test for lows or extreme highs in the traditional sense..I count my lucky stars I am not in that awful position

Is the person not able to have someone (ie community nurse) come in to test and give insulin? This might be appropriate if the person is on twice daily insulin, or as already stated one can count the clicks.
There is also a talking glucose meter available freely from the RNIB

Paul, from my experience with the Medtronic cgms, it only makes an alarm if the glucose level is very high or hypo; the alarm is pretty feeble, I wouldn't want to rely on it.

After a brief look you can get audible "speaking" monitors with a human voice. The logistics of fitting a pin prick lancet and test strip is easy to do if you have a shaped like I have and it is shaped on one end. Insulix I think is the brand. There you are, sorted, job done!

Wasn't Joyce offered any assistance or guidance on diagnosis/ If not that is appalling.
I agree wih phoenix hat the only safe soluion would be o have someone visi Joyce at home-at least o begin with.
There is so much potential for something to go wrong.
