My daughter has a constant belly ache since being diagnosed with type 1 last August. We thought it was psychological and she sees a councillor but still has it....any ideas or tips???

Hello @noyeymalone Welcome to the forum :) Have you sought advice from your GP ? belly ache can be linked to a number of different medical conditions, also try to keep a food diary so you can track it against what she is eating as there may be a connection with her diet, but it should be thoroughly investigated by a professional, I hope you can get to the bottom of this.

Thanks. I've just taken her to the doctors and all OK . She said to talk to her diabetic team, so I'm gonna call them now. ....

Not being able to eat as many chocolate digestives as I used to.
Rather than an 'ache', could she possibly be describing pain from injecting or soreness from injecting in the same areas?

IBS can have a psychological cause, but can still cause real discomfort.

Coeliac disease can have stomached ache type symptoms. Coeliac often comes along with type 1 as it's an autoimmune disease, the body thinks it has gotta kill gluten, but can't so instead starts attacking bits of its own healthy gut. You can find coeliac antibodies or ask for a gut biopsy to see if the gut is being attacked.

How exactly did the GP decide "all ok" or that the stomach ache problem was for referral to the diabetic team?

Had a child at school who got a lot of tummy ache symptoms when going low. She was young and newly diagnosed but it was a good pointer.

Hope you get to the bottom of this. Perhaps keep a note of any connection to low blood sugars and/or eating certain foods. Unfortunately there is a connection between type 1 diabetes and coeliac disease i.e. gluten intolerance so worth keeping an eye on.
