Edited: Hi, I’m new here. I've been learning as much as I can about diabetes after finding out my mom had gestational diabetes when she had me (she recently got diagnosed with prediabetes). I also have a family history of T1 (and a few non-blood relatives with T2). I was wondering, what tools/methods do you feel have supported you the most in managing your diabetes? Where do you feel like you experience the biggest gaps or lack of support? (I'm asking to see if there are ways I can better support the prediabetic/T2 people in my life).

For me, as a very ordinary type two who is really sensitive to carbs the only thing to do is eat fewer carbs and test to make sure I am within the normal range.
I don't find it at all stressful, in fact I seem to cope with stress better now than when being told to eat a high carb low fat diet to reduce my cholesterol - which it didn't.

And managing any kind of related stress? Where do you feel like your biggest gaps are in terms of handling everything? How have your needs changed over the course of your diagnosed life? Would really, really appreciate your thoughts on all or any of these.

Hi there

Those are very broad questions especially given the range of diabetes types, treatments and ways of managing. Is there some particular concern for yourself or a family member behind the question that might help others provide information that will be relevant to your circumstances?

Hi Goonergal, yeah looking back I realize there were too many vague questions in that post. I know diabetes varies widely but I was interested in what people felt were essential tools for their physical and/or mental health and if there are gaps where they could use more support. I'm trying to understand where the most common gaps are so I can better support close family/relatives who have prediabetes and T2, if that helps. I edited the post to reflect that.

A comprehensive food diary, which gives you a detailed description of what is happening to you before and after food. Of course a glucometer and testing strips is invaluable to keeping records.
It will help your doctor with a true diagnosis and a tailored dietary treatment for especially prediabetes but for T2s as well.
