Hi, I’m a low prediabetic and have decided to buy a cgm from abbot. I have already used their free trial offer a while ago. When I started a few days ago I was eating low carb and my BG was always under 6, so I was feeling good about things. But yesterday I started taking amoxicillin and prednisolone for a chest infection and asthma and my BG has shot up. Is this normal? If so, how disappointing! Thanks.

Infections usually result in increased blood glucose levels - this applies whether you take medication or not. Some medications can also increase blood glucose levels. Suggest you deal with clearing the infection and you can then get back to lowering blood glucose levels after that ;)

With @jonathan183 on this: It's more likely the infection driving numbers up, though prednisolone might add a bit to it. It'll pass eventually though. Keep doing what you're doing, because if you say "s*d it, sugars are high anyway", and start eating a bunch of carbs, it'll go even higher. The infection and medication are there for the time being and those can't be helped more than they are right now, but you still have a say in your foods, so don't give up!

Illness and steroids are the perfect storm to raise blood sugars unfortunately. Keep to your usual diet and it should all revert back to normal when you are well and the course of steroids is finished.
