BG Levels how do they change

Hiya ,
Just wondering if I test my BG levels 2 hours after my main Meal (Evening) , will the level continue to drop or is that more or less after the meal ?
I have only been asked to do BG Levels 9 times a week 3 times daily for 3 days , I chose Friday-Sunday ..

Today after my main meal I had my lowest reading its was 4.9 , and this afternoon I felt better than I have felt for ages , I also had my most active work day since I found out I was Type II , is my BG reading lower tonight because I have been more active ?

I also haven't been to the toilet today for a number two :P and thats very strange for me as im regular , but I guess my whole body is changing ..

what are the chances I can drop to to low on the BG Level ?

Thanks Dave

Low carbing does give you more energy (or at least, it does me!) and being more active would help your BG.

As for constipation - it can be a bit of a problem because you're not putting so much bulk through your gut. A serving of live plain yoghurt with maybe some flax seeds should help; also plenty of water, and plenty of leafy green veg. It's the right time of year for rhubarb, too! If I get too bad I have to resort to red wine, which always sorts things out.

There will be other discussions of this on the forum, if you search - or maybe Cugila knows where to find them? :D

Viv :)

Thanks again Viv , I thought I may have done a number two this morning but I feel its brewing !..

I am eating greens or cabbage with 90% of my main meal , and eating three fruits a day ... I am pretty sure I will be ok with the new diet and keep the carbs down and junk out ..

When I went on my big diet before I ate the same home made soup three times a week for nearly two years and didn't get overly board with it ..

When my body gets used to things I intend to start my bike riding again , Luckily I still have to bikes I did sell my best one ..

The very funny thing for me is , and maybe its the same for many Im really happy about the ways things have turnt out , Im looking forward to a healthy lifestyle going out again with the kids on the bike , and getting to places I cant on foot with my camera...

So hows things going your end Viv , Was just reading your first post , you had lost 2 stone :) wow that great you did say you had lost a good bit ...

at present Ive managed to drop from 20.3 to 18.12 , haven't started exercising yet just riding to work so far instead of driving having problems with my right need , hope its just rusty ..

Take Care Dave

Hi Dave

I forgot to mention anything about going too low - hypoglycaemia, or hypo for short.

A hypo is considered anything under 4. If you look it up on this site you'll find all the symptoms to watch for, and there are various threads that talk about how to deal with it. People who have had high BG for a while can get 'hypo' symptoms with what would be called 'okay' BGs, only because their body is used to running on higher levels.

I would suggest that the time you need to watch for hypos will be when you start cycling again - although exercise can push your levels up as well as down! There is nothing straightforward about this condition!

When you do get out on your bike, I'd carry your meter with you in case you feel strange, at least for a while. If you end up feeling strange, or any of the hypo symptoms, test your BG levels and take action - this site recommends carrying glucose tablets to raise your levels quickly (I have a few in a little plastic bag in my meter case) and a small carby snack such as a couple of plain not-too-sweet biscuits.

Hope that helps a bit - but read round, there's much more on the site about hypos.

I'm well stuck at the moment, as far as weight goes - I can't keep off the wine. A bottle over the week-end undos all the good I've done during the week. More self-discipline is required! Otherwise I feel a bit like you do - I'm not frightened of this disease, I'm going to take it by the scruff of its neck and get it - and me - under control. It may well be one of the best things that's happened to me. Exercise is difficult because of arthritis and muscle weakness, but I'm gtting there. Not quite ready for a dog yet

Next blood tests tomorrow - I hate facing the day without coffee!

Viv :)

LOL the dreaded Wine Viv:P ..
Im back to the doctors Wednesday to see the nurse and discuss my progress and check my Diary etc

I did a search for Hypo so many results came up , but I do have the booklet from the doctors so Im checking that ...

Today again I feel on top of the world really energetic , my knee was ok coming home on the bike , its only 2.5 miles to work and back no big mileage but will help to loosen me up ..

Just had my dinner and Im bloated !..

Lucky for me I don't drink , only special occasions my only vice was food and boy did I get stuck in , so want miss the booze

I shall mention my cycling Wed to the nurse and I shall get some glucose tablets , I already have lucozade in the car ..

I don't really like exercise , but Ive always like the Bike Riding and I have some good routes I know .. I can do a simple 15 mile round trip down the Tow path I will start soon if I continue to feel so good just wary about burning off that energy and my BG ..

When you say Tomorrow is your Next Blood Tests , how often do you test ?

Im going to see my Level after this meal just to make me feel better , if I correct it will be higher than yesterday because of less activity during work , but who knows ..

Thanks for your help and advice Viv , I added you as a friend I hope you don't mind ..

Im sure I can keep my eating Healthy from now on I don't long to eat the Biscuits chocolates or cakes yet , when I lost weight before I kept it off for 2 years so I'm sure now with a really reason I shall be fine ..

I hope that you cant get your few niggles sorted , Oh yeah I managed to go to the toilet this morning so that's good ..

and like you I think this is one of the best things that has happened to me , Its a right royal kick up the ar*e :) ..

Any way time to go speak soon cheers Dave

My next 'official' blood tests with the practice nurse - fasting BG, HbA1c, lipids, kidney and liver function, thyroid function and anything else we can think of while I'm there! This happens 3-monthly at the moment.

And after that I'm taking the weekend off :P I shan't go mad, but the odd slice of bread and butter may find its way into my mouth, and maybe  a meat pie or a cornish pasty  . Fortunately I lost my taste for sweet things many years ago, and even pre-diabetic days hardly ever ate cakes, puds and sweets. On Monday it will be back to the strict diet.

I never learned how to ride a bike . . . maybe I ought to get an adult tricycle! Trouble is, there are hills in either direction out of here. I should have gone for a walk today, but was chained to a hot computer instead. Oh well!

I'll keep you posted on my blood test results.

V :)

How long will you have to wait for your Blood Test results Viv ?.. I hope the Practice nurse was friendly

Im not sure what to expect when I go to the Nurse on Wed no body told me to fast , as its my first visit after diagnose , do you think they need to take blood ?

I'm all trapped wind today , and feel like I want the toilet , but nothing happening yet ..
I did a blood test yesterday after Diner 5.9 ... So looks like last weeks results should be bettered this week ..

I'm starting my 3 daily BG tests tomorrow through to Sunday ...

When you feel ready I'm sure you will only benefit from having a dog , I would like to get a dog myself but I'm not sure I can devote enough time to it , not sure of walking the dog would be a novelty with the kids ..

But we adopted our next-door neighbours Cat last sept when they Moved , Kitty she has known us for 11 years and has become apart of the family , but she does have some strange ways , she may not approve of a dog ..

Riding to work is getting better I'm loosening up now and no Knee issues today or Yesterday .. that's good because its a dodgy one and all , Have fractured it 3 times in the past and never went for the cartilage op .. Its been ok for 22 years so Guess ill pay when I get older ..

Still ok with the Diet , still sure I can moderate myself without Byetta , but as its not making me ill ill stick with it ..

Feeling good still apart from this moving wind ..

I hope you have had a good day yourself , and your sticking to your plan until your weekend off

Take Care Dave :D

Hi Dave :)

I've had trouble with toilet issues as well, I think we all have at one point or another or it's still going on  I went to the pharmacy and got myself something called Fybogel and it worked wonders!

Here is a link so you can read all the info on this...

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001120.html

Thanks Ill look into that when I come home spent 15 mins this morning and managed to do a little poo !

One good way to solve your problem is to eat diabetic chocolate. It may give you another problem though if taken to excess  Be careful of the dosage...

I find Green & Black's 85% dark chocolate can work, too, and tne 100g bar only has 15.4g of carb - which means one row of 3 small pieces only has 1.54g carb.

EDIT: it's the 90% cocoa solids that has 15.4g of carb per 100g - the 85% has 22.2g carb. Sorry!

Our practice nurse is lovely, approves of low-carbing and wouldn't touch statins with a barge pole. She's very good with a needle, too, both injections and samples. My results will be in today, all except the HbA1c which takes longer, so I shall go to see the doctor on either Tuesday (if it's back) or Thursday, which are the days he's on this week. As I've said before, we don't have an appointment system for the GPs, so I long as I get there before 10:30 I'll be seen.

My BP was up this time (140/90, which is high for me). Probably the combination of alcohol and no exercise  . I've already been for a walk this morning, and am spending the rest of the day gardening, so that should help.

Thanks Daisy , Luckily I have been to the loo three times today twice I had to strain abit third was normal ...

Hi Viv ,
I have only ever had my Blood pressure done three times in my life twice recently always ok ,
Your lucky with the appointments or health Centre is a pain to get a Appoint , but with my recent visits they have been quicker ..
you say your results will be in Today will you know Today , or you going to wait for them all at once when you go in on Tuesday ..

Ah sounds good walking and Gardening that should do you fine :) , I still haven't gone out yet for a real ride , but just ordered some new gear cables gonna give it a tune up..

what did the nurse say about your high BP ?

Got a letter from the Hospital today inviting me for a Diabetic Retinal Screening , I shall be going 15th April , hope I don't have trouble if I need eye drops I have a eye phobia and cant keep them open for drops to easily ..

Diet is going well BG levels are now between 4.9-7.3 after meals ..

I was so happy to do a natural poo this afternoon , hope nobody is eating  ..

My weight is still coming off , down to 18 8 stone this morning , got new trousers on today to celebrate ..

I will look for the Chocolate when we go shopping later on .

My Carb Bible has arrived , but its not my birthday yet so my daughter will want to wrap it up , Bless ..

No more problems with my knee today ..

Im still feeling much more energetic than before and Im sleeping the whole night through , so its all pluses here ..

Dave

I've just edited my chocolate post - the 85% has 22.2g carb, it's the 90% that has 15.4. Sorry!

I shall wait and get all my results together when I see the doctor. The nurse was fine about my BP - she knows I'll do something about it! (less wine, more exercise  ). The gardening went okay, I had chicken, leeks & mushrooms for supper (even posher way of saying 'tea' ) and my BG was 5.0 2 hours after, so I'm feeling well pleased!

I need to get another couple of stone off (at least) this year, so I shallbe getting down to that in a week or so. I always start serious dieting on April Fool's Day

Viv :)

5.0 that's great :) ..
My bowels are working fine now :P , Got a letter from the Hospital and I can make an Appointment to see the dietician , but I also got a Letter from the Doctors cancelling my Wed appointment for Tuesday following week :( , I was looking forward to that an all the following week :( ...

Ah well at least it will soon come .. Well I hope the diet kicks in 1st April for ya , if the weather is ok next Saturday Im going out for a ride going to give myself a 15 mile target as I feel sure I can managed that ..

I was 6.2 after my meal last night I had Broccoli Basmati rice and 2 Pork Burger .. steak tonight with greens and potatoes ..

Thats it for now have a good day Dave

Glad your bowels are working fine now, Dave. It's been a fascinating conversation

Ah well had a good weekend kept to my new eating regime , BG levels were good lowest 4.4 highest 8.1..
Still feeling revitalized and generally good :) , Been going to toilet OK .. Just waiting to get my appointments all sorted and over and done with ..
