Hi Everyone,
Brief background - Diagnosed T2 five years ago and on Metformin up until January this year when I went LCHF and lost 2 stone, came off Metformin. BG levels coming down steadily - last clinic 46 - home testing up until a few days ago were averaging 6.2 fasting and 7.7 after evening meal, so far so good. A few days ago, I had bad heel pain first thing, which gradually improves as the day goes on, but still makes me limp after rising after sitting down. I have self diagnosed plantar fasciitis which can take a while to settle. My morning bg has risen to 7.8 and after evening meal to 8.8. I'm assuming this is due to stress of pain? I'm eating exactly the same meals which have been so successful so far and nothing else has changed apart from pain in my heel/instep. I can't think of anything which may have caused this apart from since I have lost weight, my shoes are looser and the bumps on the shower floor hurt! I'm really disheartened because I know this will raise my next blood test for the clinic. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for dealing with levels rising due to pain stress? I've got inserts for my footwear and am doing stretches, but I know this will take time to take effect. Probably just venting, but I'm fed up after so much hard work!

Well done on your weight loss and improvement in HbA1c!
Pain can indeed raise blood sugars, so that may well be the reason in your case. I would however encourage you to see your Dr about the pain in your foot. As diabetics we have to be very careful with our feet so it would be wise to have a medic look at it to be sure you’re right as to what the problem is.

Thank you. I'm reasonably confident my feet are ok as I pay for private appointments with a podiatrist and he always does a test for any problems with circulation or lack of feeling. As you say I should also check with my doctor, but oh the waiting time for an appointment!!

Hi mistyb33,
As Rachox says pain can (perhaps usually does) raise your B, as do other things such as illness, lack of sleep and lack of exercise. Of course these last 2 items often accompany pain!
If you have recently changed to a new batch of testing strips, there is also the possibility that the normal inaccuracies between batches could also account for some change in readings.

Get your foot problem sorted as a first priority rather than stressing about the higher BG levels. Once that is back to normal then you have the ammunition to fight your higher BG levels.
