sorry I have another question. I am still trying to get my head round levels and what food I can/can't eat.

My fasting level this morning was slightly higher than normal at 6. I had scrambled eggs and ham for breakfast and 2 hours later my level was 5.6. I had a snack of blueberries and greek yoghurt and 2 hours later my bs level was 6. I had leek and potato soup for lunch with brie and cream and my level 2 hours later was 5.

Does this look OK or is there anything I should avoid (yoghurt?). Although my bs went down after the soup my stomach was bloated which it hasn't been for a while I might give it a miss in future.

What should I look at when I test after meals?

Two weeks into testing and I am still as much in the dark as ever
Last two or three days testing has bit a bit haphazard as I have been out quite a bit
I did test 2 hours after breakfast before I went out to lunch yesterday BG 5.4 I had a turkey roast dinner with carrots, parsnips, cabbage and 3 roast potatoes tested when I got home about 3 hours later BG level was still 5.4
Today fasting level before breakfast was 7.1 so quite high, after a breakfast of 2 slices Bergen toast with sardines mixed with fresh chopped basil and a little vinegar and mayonaise level after 2 hours was 5.1

So all I have learnt in the last two weeks of keeping a food diary and eating mainly the same foods is that GB levels are totally confusing and go up and down all the time One day you can eat something and GB level after 2 hours will be good next time you have the same meal BG levels can be totally different.
When I saw the DN she told me just to keep on with my diet of low fat with plenty of fruit and vegetable.. which I have been doing for the last 6 or more years due to raised cholesterol.. I have not really changed or cut out anything while I have been testing. Sh e just said to eat wholemeal pasta and rice instead of white if I eat them.. which I rarely do ...and I always have wholemeal bread and do low sugar anyway not got a sweet tooth. DN did not want to see me again as she said I am not diabetic yet so maybe I have been doing it right all along

I wish my fasting levels were 6! 12 this morning and still no sign of getting my first appointment with the DN since diagnoses. Your levels are all within the normal range so that's great

What about chicken and leek soup instead. It would be the potato that bloats you as you are reducing carbs. I think you become more sensitive to them.

maybird I am keeping a food diary and most of the time my levels are under 6 so that is what I am aiming for, aprt from the weekend when my levels were 11 after my dominos pizza - I won't be doing that again!

missy it is shocking how long the wait is to see the DN. I had to wait 2 1/2 weeks. All the time waiting if you don't get any outside advice you could just be making things worse.

dawn I thought I would give the potatoes a try to see what my levels would be but think I will avoid. Thanks for the suggestion of chicken and leek soup. I have found a recipe for tomato soup on one of the low carb websites

when I test before and after a meal what constitutes a spike? Is it if the post tea level is much higher than the pre tea level or is it if the post tea level is high compared with other results? my pre tea levels are usually between 4 and 5 as I am hungry and this makes my bs drop and the difference between pre and post tea would be higher than if my bs level was 5 or 6.

As you can tell I am still soooo confused!
