Comments please. Diagnosed type 2 last year with levels just over 7. Lost a lot of weight, reduced carbs significantly now my levels are in the lower 7s fasting and normally in the 6s during the day. Not very often in the 5s. Never appear to spike above 8ish apart from an odd occasion. Is this ok or do I need to try and lower numbers?
Must add that I have just returned from a fortnights holiday. I had a variable amount of red wine every night, no other alcohol at all and my early morning test was in the 6s. SO thinking about a bedtime drink of one glass of red wine every night. As I say, comments please.
Many thanks

Hi broads.

As a T2 the Bg levels you should be aiming to stay within are as follows.
Fasting(waking)................between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals...............no more than 8.5 mmol/l.

Lower post prandial readings are better if you can. Sounds like you are not too far away from the guidelines set out by NICE.

Red wine is supposed to lower Bg, but I have no personal experience. I don't drink it. As for your numbers, I would try to get them down a little bit if you can. damage to micro blood vessels is thought to begin at about 6.1. Since you are keeping very steady, It shouldn't be too hard to drop down that little bit more.
I'm working on getting in to the 4s at the moment
