Type 2 BG Of 3.8

Good morning I have just returned from shopping and tested my BG it was 3.8 yesterday I had one reading of 3.6 is this anything to be concerned about,I only get one of these readings every day.Thank you:)

ps I think I am getting obsessed with this testing;)
 
Too low - you need to eat some carbs. When I went down to this level on a morning I got shaky hands (and my dietician says that this is too low a BS level).

Wiseowl - Much depends how you feel at these levels and the medication, if any, you are taking, and to a lesser extent when you see these readings; i.e. before a meal or post-meal readings.

If you could give me those bits of information, I can respond more accurately.
 
I wonder if you might need your meds tweaking downwards? From the looks of it your HBAC1 has come down like mine did - in very short order (starting off at 102 and down to 50 in 4 months - awaiting my current levels). As the dietician said to me the other day "the weight loss will also have made you more insulin sensitive". This could be another thing which is causing the lower BS level. Might be worth having a chat with the doc or asking to have your review brought forward to discuss it. Just a thought.
 
I would agree that the timing of this 'low' is important to know. Also how you were feeling.

And yes, it may well be that you no longer need so much Metformin - which is an excellent step. Worth ringing your nurse and discussing it with her.

I certainly wouldn't suggest 'eating up' carbs to compensate for medication, if you can get the same effect by reducing that medication. Hopefully your nurse will advise the same.

by the way - the general thinking is that diabetics on meds like insulin and Gliclazide should eat carbs to raise blood glucose if their blood glucose goes lower than 4mmol/l. This is because the drugs may drive blood glucose down too low.

On the other hand, for those of us who control by diet, and weaker meds like Metformin, then going a bit lower than 4 is fine and our own bodies can almost always prevent it from going too low.

For non-diabetics blood glucose readings in the 3s are perfectly normal.
 
Good morning @Nicksu @AndBreathe @Brunneria my thoughts exactly,phoned doctor and was informed that because of the number of patients they are only making appointments on the day basis,which means that you have to phone up every morning at 830am when they open and it is impossible to get through as everyone is phoning at the same time,,I shall go down the surgery at 8.30am to see if I can get an appointment in person,as I don't really want to stop my medication myself but I have made an appointment for next Monday at 10am

ps I feel no different even when I get the reading of 3.8,(once yesterday and once on Sunday)they both happened before my second breakfast about 3/4 hours after first breakfast,Porridge) it is now 5.3 where it will stay most of the day.:)
 
Good morning @Brunneria been to the surgery and they haven't got an appointment until next week,so I respectfully suggested asked if I could see the diabetic nurse,they said Oh she's left,and we haven't got another one yet,now bearing in mind there are over 14,000 people in my local town with Diabetes anyway I digress ,I explained my position politely and courteously and the receptionist said I will get the doctor to ring you this afternoon:)

To be honest, wiseowl, if you are effectively 3.8, pre-meal, I would call that good progress, rather than a problem.

Hopefully your doctor will ease your mind.

I was 3.8 yesterday afternoon.
I can tell when I'm that low, as I feel dreadful.
Although yesterday was worse than normal, and I seem to have woken up with a flu like thing this morning.
I'm not on BG lowering meds though, so I'll just eat normally, and it'll take care of it for me.

What a coincidence! My bg was 3.8 this morning and I was wondering whether to post. I am now on no medication and this was first thing in the morning before any food, so I am not unduly concerned as I feel fine.
 
@wiseowl_123 - nothing wrong with getting obsessive about testing. :-)

How were you feeling at 3.8? OK? Hungry? Shaky?

Even if you felt fine, you are right to consider a chat with the doc; as others have said, you may need to reduce your meds because you're doing so well!

Thanks for that, I am on no meds, so the bit about being in the 3's being perfectly normal is very reassuring.

I never see 3s during the day, but I do see them overnight (according to my Libre). Lowest has been 3.2. I wake up in the mornings with no ill effects and in the 5s so my liver has done its job.

And so they should - it always amazes me when the doctors whinge that people don't attend their appointments. Telephone appointments are so much more convenient - they should offer more of them to patients. Unless you need to be examined - what's the point of having to go to the surgery?! Here's hoping everything goes well and the doc listens to what you have to say and has some constructive advice.
 
If you are feeling well, your doctor may suggest you stop testing.

My DN is against self testing and the 'anxiety' it causes to those on non hypo inducing medication. I do not agree that this is right for everyone and I think I benefit from testing. I try to remember that my tests have quite a margin of error but do not always suceed.

My GP does telephone consultations, which can work well, but neither party sees the body language over the phone. I have read that communication is 55% body language, with the balance made up of the words and the tone.

In an ideal world, telephone consultations would be Skype with video or Facetime. I'm not a fan of video conferencing per se, but sometimes it could be quite critical.

I haven't asked any GP what they feel about telephone consultations, but my personal feeling is they are more suitable for subsequent appointments (e.g. to see how the tablets are going or updated test results), rather than anything requiring a diagnosis.
 
Good evening Doctor just phoned me conversation went like this,well if you want to just take one metformin tablet in the morning,instead of two,if you want to,don't try to hard on the low carbs,I explained that I was eating 80 to 100 carbs a day which I felt was right for me,I really wanted to reverse my diabetes if possible,doctor said that's not possible,once you have diabetes you have always got it,I said I cannot except that,he said well if you go below 3 and you feel dizzy up your carbs ,he will see me in 2 months for my 3 month assessment ie blood test and we will go from there,I also asked why I haven't got a Diabetic nurse as the last one left,he said they are getting a new one at the end of February,I then bid him goodnight;)
