Hey all; just curious really at all your diagnostic BG levels. What I mean is the reading you got that lead to a +ve diabetic diagnosis. So, for example, after having the "classical symptoms" for a while I then went to my walk-in centre and my BG was checked. It registered in at 26mmol/L !!!
I spoke to a friend in Scouting (Type2 diabetic) and on diagnosis his was in the 40s! (needless to say he was rush to hospital!)
So, what were your BG levels...

Hu dazza my 6 year old type 1 son was diagnosed nearly 2 year ago he was poorly for around 2 weeks prior to diagnosis I had taken him to see his GP 6 times in 2 weeks to be told every time he had a viral infection after 2 weeks of him not getting any better and him loosing 2 stone I took him to walk in where the checked his BG after useing 3 different machines all 3 were flashing high he was rushed to hospital and finally he was diagnosed I was later told from consultant the if I had left it even 1 more hour he wouldn't of made it through the night needless to say when ever one of my children are poorly I avoid the GP and that them to walk in :)

Routine MOT for the over 60's. Hba1c 53 (7%) Glucose 7mmol/L. No symptoms. Complete shock. Type 2 diet & exercise. Guess I was caught fairly early.

Mine weren't too high. I was told they were "borderline", so maybe I was caught early. They were, however, at 14 mmol/l - not "borderline" if you ask me (but not as high as most people)!

My BG at diagnosis was in the low 20's. Was a total shocker for me, even though I'd had the symptoms for many months like weight loss and excessive thirst.

I had a reading of 22 on the Friday (fasting) which meant they called me for a retest. Monday gave 29 (not fasted) so straight to hospital after that. Felt fine so was home again in a few hours

I didn't even have a blood test. My 'expert' diabetes specialist GP just dipped a urine stick in my urine sample and said I was a T2 diabetic after we agreed I had the complete list of symptoms. I suspect I was actually in the 30s had I been given a meter test at the time.

Hi Dazza my BG level was 33 when diagnosed last October - symptoms crept up over about 4 weeks, ie thirsty, weight loss, blurry vision, dry eyes and mouth. Funnily enough wasn't hungry, but might have been getting the extra calories from drinking orange juice and pop instead of water as I usually did. Pleased to say am now in the normal range - hope you are too now.

I was pregnant, caught in a routine screening with fasting BG of 8.2 and OGTT of 12. But even then they suspected it wasn't normal gestational db, so I had a post-delivery OGTT that gave similar readings and my comfortingly temporary gestational db diagnosis was changed to the lifelong diabetes we all know about. But I've never had a scarily high reading, just high enough to pass the test!

I had blood tests done at the hospital on the Friday morning and then my gp phoned me at work in the evening to say they were 24 and he told me to leave work and go to the hospital, where I spent 4 days. Most memorable day of my life so far.

I do not have diabetes
My wife booked me in to see the doctor as I was drinking and weeing so much (been going on 3 to 6 months). Finger prick test was 24 (had eaten 4 slices of toast and a large glass of orange juice); no ketones. So bloods taken for fasting which was 9.4 and HBA1c of 91.

Now yy average BG is running under 5.4 (hoping will be under 40 HBA1c in April when I see the nurse)
