Hello
how do i get a free BG testing monitor?
cant get one from gp, cant afford £40

I would advise you to check the cost of the testing strips rather than just the meter. The strips will be your biggest expense.

Having said that, the Tee 2, available free from Spirit Healthcare has some of the cheapest strips. Update. When finding the link I noticed that only the Tee2+ is listed on their website and that is £9.99. Not sure when that was introduced, but still cheap.

You can get it here:

http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/tee2-plus-blood-glucose-meter/

The SD codefree has the cheapest strips, but to get the best price you need to buy in bulk (5 or 10 packs of strips at once), which might be difficult on a tight budget.

You can get that here:

https://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/codefree-blood-glucose-monitoring-system-mmoll-or-mgdl/

Codes for discounted strips are:

5 packs 264086
10 packs 975833

Enter them during checkout - it’s not the most obvious process, so go slowly!

In either case you need to tick the box to say you have diabetes to avoid paying VAT and you want the mmol version of the meter.

Hi .
I got a free blood glucose meter when I was first diagnosed by my GP and I get the strips and lancets by prescription.
Take care Julie.
You are one of the lucky ones I was given the testing meter but no strips or lancets and have been told numerous times since not to test ...so like many have to banter for strips on ebay and buy my lancets on amazon.

Provision of testing equipment is dependent upon the CCG of the area in which you live. Like so much else, it’s a postcode lottery if you are T2. GPs are interested in HbA1c results, testing via widgets is not of value to them. If you are like me, you want to test against foodstuffs to inform of individual response to various foods, then it’s a matter of funding your own. It’s tedious but at least all required meds are provided by NHS.
