It's my birthday! First one since going low carb. I just wondered what is your favourite celebratory meal? I'd love chips today but it takes a good two days to get my sugars back to normal after eating them.
Also, I have erratic numbers today, probably due to antibiotics so should I just stick to low carb or say screw it and celebrate anyway?

Happy Birthday!

It is entirely up to you :) but I tend to find that I 'pay' for a carby day by feeling off for several days afterwards. So now my idea of a fab celebration is a Low Carb Food Fest of Glorious Decadence, Unlimited Portions and Low Carb CAKE.

:D

That way, I get the best of both worlds.

Thank you for the advice. I'd rather stay low carb as I'm doing so well and really like to see low numbers.
Am thinking steak, mushrooms and a creamy sauce with salad, followed by strawberries and some cream.
Low carb cake? What is this delight?

Celeriac chips are amazing and very very low carbs. add steak green beans in butter and stilton sauce and you cant fail to be happy!

Happy Birthday!!

Can't offer any suggestions on cake cos I don't bake but hope you have a lovely day -steak & mushrooms yum:yum

Happy birthday. I agree with the above post Celeriac chips are amazing and very easy to make, would go lovely with your steak.

Happy Birthday x

In my family celebratory meals are usually a roast of some sort - usually roast duck, rib of beef or lamb - but on our 20th wedding anniversary in February Mr Chook took me out to a tapas restaurant - we avoided all the carby bread and spuds stuff and had a fantastic low carb meal which Mr C has since replicated at home. He likes cooking. Bless him. :) ;)

My favouorite meal is lamb chops with asparagus, roasted courgettes in garlic butter and roasted broccoli with lemon and parmesan - I've been dropping hints about having this on my birthday in June but I doubt he'll take the hint because he looks on lamb chops as an 'everyday' food. :(

As for a pud - well, nothing nicer than a lovely low carb lemon cheesecake or chocolate torte with some fresh raspberries.

And my favourite way of having steak is with crumbled Stilton on top.
If you put the cheese on while the meat is 'resting' then it is half melty by the time you serve it.
Lush.

(we usually have steak with stilton, caramelised onions and green salad for our Xmas dinner - it is THAT delicious)

Low carb cake? What is this delight?

This delight is pretty d*mn delightful. :D
These are my three current faves. All v easy to make. Just be warned, the calories are HIGH, but they only average around 5-7g carbs a slice.

don't have a pic for this one, sadly. but it is a stonker of a cake.

@Brunneria and others ...
Why did you have to put all these horrible cakey recipe things up here on the very day that I am trying to fast for the first time. But you can't break me .. I am determined to be strong .. I will ignore them for today and, tomorrow, I will come back to this thread and save all the links for future reference ..
And now I feel magnificently virtuous ...

I too am a huge fan of lamb chops and asparagus with salad. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. And the best part is my bs is happy and I don't feel like cr*p for the next few days. Who needs chips??
This too is a normal meal for us but it tastes fabulous everytime

The only place I go off the board is finishing the meal with a big fat dark chocolate covered strawberry. !! It so light and fresh after a rich meal of lamb. Perfect ending

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Go buy yourself something nice and eat that big honking smothered steak and savor each bite.
