What range should your blood be in go go to bed? I am 5.3 so I'm guessing if I don't eat anything I will go low?
When I have googled it it says 13 but I would class that as being high? What does everyone else aim for? X

As a type 1 on insulin always been advised to go to bed between 7~8. Any lower have a small snack. You should have a drop of no more than two overnight. Hope this helps u.

Rude people !
I think 5.3 is fine. Don't assume that if you go to sleep lowish, it will get even lower. Quite often I wake with higher BG than night before ! Others will hopefully explain better than me !

I'm comfortable if my blood sugars are over 7. I am terrified if night time hypos though hence I wake up every 3am to test. It's become the norm for me now so doesn't disrupt my sleep pattern....too much!

Thanks for all your replies! It's so confusing some nights I'm ok, some times my bloods are fine before bed but then in the morning I'm waking up really high (don't know if I am having a hypo during the night without knowing) and then other nights I'm ok :/

5.3 would be to low unless u are 100% sure your basal insulin is correct and you stay the same through the dreaded 3 am low. This is often the lowest point in the night and some find they have a rebound high in the morning from dropping to low in the night. You need some margin of error to allow for un expected drops. only people on pumps who have vigorously tested and adjusted doses can happily go to bed with lower levels. On mdi always aim for 7~8 before bed and 5 ~ 6 am

Have you tried doing a 3am basal test. This will help you know what's goin on.

Like brett said, if you know your basal is ok then 5.3 is fine as you know it will stay steady. If you don't know that its correct, then 7 would be a good target to aim for so that you don't drop too much and go hypo.

I am usually 8 or 9 before bed, high 6's in the morning. I was speaking to my DSN yesterday and she's to me to snack before bed. So last night I had a piece of toast and now I'm woke up at 11. If I'm high in the morning I find it incredibly hard to get back down for the rest of the day

Only had this just over a fortnight so still trying to get to grips with everything. Just seems odd that if my overnight levels were fine why mess with the system and insist I eat? I only ate before if I was below 8.

I try to make my daughter eat especially if she is under 6 before bed.

Hi

In many ways I am the same as Riri. Even though I use a pump and can adjust all my basal rates of insulin to suit what bg level I want to achieve, I still make sure that I eat a small snack before going to bed. I will only not eat if my bg level is on 8mmol, but most nights if my evening meal basals are correct, I will go to bed with a bg level of 7mmol and then eat small snack (5g carb) and do a small bolus and that usually keeps me ok with a bg level of about 6mmol all through the night till morning when I get up..

The only real way of knowing whether you will need to eat a snack or not is to go to bed without eating and then get up every 2.5hrs, do a bg test and then that should tell whether you would be better to eat something before turning in. Some people go naturally low but some will go higher so the bg test reveals all :)
