Hello,
My nurse recently upped my insulin to carb rate and Lantus rate, I was told I need to check it tonight at 2am, for a week or so
But I have school in the morning, and wake up around 5 giving me only 3-4 hours of sleep.
Please suggest me.
She told me I could have a hypo and go unconcious in the night.

Thanks,
Raymond

Set an alarm. Go to sleep. Test at 2am when alarm goes off. Go back to sleep.

Testing in the night doesn't mean you have to stay awake all night.

What I'm saying is that alarms don't wake me up, no matter how loud, I would sleep through anything, the only thing that wakes me up is someone shaking me and hitting me with a pillow several times.

Could you ask someone else in the house to wake you?

Try a couple. Put one right by your ear and then another on the floor far enough away from your bed that you need to get up to stop it.

This was what i had to to do for months when i was first diagnosed. As i was living away at college in a shared room, i used a silent alarm on my fitbit to wake me up to test at 2/3am. I was having bad hypos each night so was good i tested. You need to test or you may become ill

I had the same problem, OP. When I was in high school I was able to sleep through a full blast alarm clock right next to my face, it'd wake up my family before it woke me up.

What instantly got me up though was the creaking stairs because I knew that's I was about to get a verbal lashing for not getting up.

Basically, your brain's trained to ignore the sound of your alarm. Did you try setting it to a radio station, or an in-between (if not digital) where it gets full of static?

If you're young enough to be relying on someone waking you up in the morning, you can probably also rely on them testing you at night. I'm assuming your parents were at the appointment when you were told insulin was increased and you need to test at 2am to check for night time hypos. Have a chat with them about your concerns you won't wake for an alarm and get them to check your blood sugar during the night.

Splitting ur night sleep is bad enough, its not the same as sleeping thru the night. As catapillar said u could ask someone to test for u at 2am ? Tho the best way I could do the 2am checks was simply going to bed earlier, so i wont be such a zombie in the morning from waking up the middle of the night.

Well, my father works, and I don't really live with my mother.
So it's pretty complicated, My dad is gone at 5am in the morning so he relys on more sleep than me.
And he's about the same as me too.

Well, try to sleep earlier a bit. (: for this week just go to bed 2-3 hours before u would normally do, u wont be feeling so tired in the morning as if u slept the same time as usual.

Drink three big glasses of water before bed, set as many alarms as you can get your hands on? One of these should wake you up surely?

What time does your dad leave in the morning? If he leaves at say, 02:00 or 03:00 he could wake you up to test then instead.

Is it a case of you snoozing/turning the alarm off and going back to sleep or you simply don't hear it? On my phone I use an app that won't allow me to turn it off until I scan a barcode which I keep in another room or if I'm not at home until I solve some maths problems.

I used to be very good at getting used to the noise of the alarm and ignoring it so I switched to using radio stations as it's always different every morning.
