Blood glucose levels rising again

Hi. I've been following a LCHF diet and it really seemed to be helping with my readings but over the last few weeks my readings have been going back up. My morning readings are 10s or 11s which is higher than before I started on the diet. I've been eating much the same things but I'm now feeling a bit disheartened. Did this happen to anyone else or has anyone any idea why this is happening?

What is your daily carb intake and have you been on LCHF for long?
Do you take medication and how long have you been diagnosed as diabetic?

Dawn phenomenon can often cause high morning BG readings. A lot of us also find that our BG rises pretty soon after we get up and start moving around, further to this - we can also be more insulin resistant in the morning compared to the rest of the day.

What are your BG levels before bed?
Do you test as soon as you wake up; as in immediately?
Do you have anything to eat before bed?
Also, do you have breakfast?

Sorry for the million questions, but the more info we have the more likely it is for you to get a good answer:)

I am only recently diagnosed as diabetic but I am a long time low carber. It is not uncommon for people to start off well, and then what is called 'carb creep' begins, slightly larger portions, eating things which look similar to the low carb ones but not when you read the side of the box. I have even had a product which was in the same design of packaging but with a carb count 2.5 times higher, entirely unannounced.
If it is not carb creep then perhaps changing the type of exercise you do, swapping to something different can help both with the enthusiasm and duration of sessions.
One thing low carbers tend to do is drink more, as the way of eating is diuretic. Are you drinking more milk? I have always been careful to drink a set number of cups of water each day.

Hi,

another question - do you test before eating and a couple of hours later? If so, what sort of levels do you see? Are they also increasing? .

Hi all. I started about 6 months ago and lost almost a stone over the period even though I wasn't overweight to begin with and definitely didn't want to lose that much weight. I usually test in the morning around 8am before breakfast. I don't think I am doing anything differently than at the start. I used to feel hungry a lot without the carbs to fill me up but have become more used to it now. I am type 2 and am on 500 mg metformin twice a day. I don't get enough strips for the month to enable me to test at regular intervals during the day so have just been concentrating on the morning readings because traditionally that's when my readings were highest.
