It was a good post indeed and I think those are excellent points the OP should discuss with her doctor. However, I think it's unfair to ASSUME what the doctor is advocating (although I agree the doctor probably is).
Im concerned that some of you feel that I disagree with the benefits of a LCHF diet. That is not true and it's not what I'm suggesting. I'm promoting the idea that we should question everything we read or hear and then make our own informed decisions. It's unwise to blindly follow the advice or opinions of others. I commend those of you who found success in the LCHF approach and especially those who were initially advised to follow the Eatwell plate. My point is, share information, experiences, successes, and failure, but encourage people to make their own decisions about what works best for them.
I only advocate a very low carb lifestyle to those who have sought advice about Hypoglycaemia, of which, I do follow my own consultants recommendations.
Through my own experience, which I must admit has benefited others who have type two diabetes, which includes the wife, I do recommend the low carb diet, which means reducing their carb intake. Reducing all types of sugar content and always test to your meter.
The thing is, that I have experienced and seen with my own eyes, how well LCHF works!
I did struggle with the recommended eatwell plate as all it did was increase my weight, the few carbs I ate, which wasn't many was still creeping up my weight.
So through fifteen years or so, I have been there, wore the T shirt and got back to being the fittest, healthiest, pensioner around here!
I agree, low carbing isn't for everybody and posters should be encouraged to educate themselves on what's best for them.
If someone can control their blood glucose levels by having a modicum of carbs and they are healthy and complex ones, then I don't have a worry!
But, T1s advocating making certain that all newbies eat carbs for their health sake is not right either!
Low carbing works!
And you do lose weight and I believe that, it's the best way to control your blood glucose levels.
But that's my opinion!
