Today i accepted was going to be a bad food day, not sugary but a higher carb'day, had a macdonalds big brekkie and half a small bottle of tropicana orange, did some light work and a sit down for a bit, then went to a pub for a sunday roast, turkey, three roast potatoes, loads of veg and half a yorkshire pud and one pint of beer, finished with two scoops of diabetic ice cream(locally produced) with full sugar waffer( silly people. pre lunch level 5.8. Two and a quater hours pass and i retest and get 5.9, can't work out why the tiny increase as i thought i would spike after that lot? Bit confused on that.

Agreed..probably hit high point an hour or so after meal...who knows what it was and you are simply fortunate it came down so quickly (which is good...but I'd expect more problems if this was a pattern). Also - what are your levels generally, and what meds are you on?

Hmm, level are, for the last 4-5days between my lowest of 4.8 to a high of 6.9, begining to see not much change of eating much after two hours so may try 1hr and see!
Tablets are 3 metformin a day, 1000mg at breakfast and 500mg at night, though that may increase after my thursday apointment with the dsn.

That sounds pretty good to me. You may see a slight spike an hour post meal..but if it's not more than 3mmols above the pre-meal reading and comes right back down an hour later...not much of an issue (particularly if it doesn't go above 8.5ish). I wouldn't see why your meds would have to go up.

I find my BS is the same, it just.goes to show that with good general control most of the time allows you to have the odd treat day with no effect. Definately test at the 1 hr mark to try and catch the spike though to determine the true effect.
