Hi everyone. I've been on here before but had stopped testing while I recovered from pneumonia.
I'm still not 100% but I am a lot better and back at work.
I've started testing again. My fasting levels are in normal range, but only just--5.4 in the morning on waking. Is this something I should be happy with, or is it better to try and get it down a bit lower? I'm not exercising at the moment as I'm still pretty weak. I'm also a bit anaemic and B12 deficient which I think won't be helping. I'm doing about 10,000 steps but no actual exercise. When I start up my daily yoga and maybe some weights and jogging, will that help lower the fasting blood sugar or do I have nothing to worry about to begin with? This level.os whilst eating a moderately low-carb med diet. 54g carbs yesterday and never more than about 90g a day, but also never less than 50g. I'd prefer to avoid a keto diet as I did it in the past and it wasn't right for me (I know many people.who thrive on it and enjoy it)

I tested two hours after starting breakfast and it's 5.4, so I know that's really good news

over selling.... oh so many things are enthusiastically oversold
Personally I’d be happy with 5.4 fbg - I’d be keeping a close eye on it though. Keeping my carbs etc. Again. Personally I find that keeping a record of activity food intake and glucose levels is a very positive thing

That's good to know that the 5.4 fbg isn't something I need to try and lower :)

I had a shock last night after testing 2 hours after dinner. I added half a small wholemeal Chapatti (17g carb) to my meal and tested at 12.2. I'll probably need to try it again in case it was an anomaly. Gutted if I can't even have a tiny bit of Chapatti every now and then!

I wouldn't have a problem personally with a 5.4 first thing in the morning. That figure is largely caused by what your liver is guessing you need, not by what you last ate. The acceptable error range for glucometers means that there's not a lot of point stressing about differences of a few tenths of a point. A true BG value of 5.0 could be shown as anything from 4.3 to 5.7 and the meter is still within acceptable accuracy.

The 5.4 after breakfast is excellent - what did you have?

I did absolutely no exercise for about two years post-diagnosis. I was still too heavy and risked injuring myself. During that time I lost around 15kg - I'm one of those that does well on keto.

I've been doing a lot of exercise more recently and my weight loss has stalled, although I'm continuing to shrink. Exercise will build muscle, which weighs more than fat. I've found my waist measurement is now a better indicator for me than what the scales say.

Ha I now can't remember what I ate! I have a few different things for breakfast: two boiled eggs with a slice of buttered luvlife bread or whole greek yoghurt with berries, soaked chia seeds and maybe some nuts, or jumbo oats with pear and almonds.
Last night I had a shock after eating half a wholemeal Chapatti with my curry--5.4 before eating and 12.2 two hours after. I'm going to do a continuous BGM trial and get more info, but I'm trying to figure out a strategy for eating while I have it so I can discover the most possible from the data about my body
