Hello,

Has anyone ever experienced when their levels just wont go down?? I have been eating the same and injecting the same all week this week and been fine.......until today. After lunch shot up to 22.9, took some correcting insulin and then tested again before dinner... (no food in between) only down to 20.7......had quite bit of correction along with my stir fry (so no carbs in this meal) and still doesnt seem to be going down......i always test my needle to make sure it is working before my injections so i know im getting the insulin......i also know its my fast acting that im giving. whats happening??? should i visit an a and e?

Thanks,

Worried!

Have you got another vial or pen of fast acting to use?

Can you test for ketones?

Are you confident you are using the correct correction dose for you?

ive been using this pen for the past 2 weeks and its been fine, i gave a correction of 8, which i know is a bit much for inbetween meals but i needed to get the sugar level down. Will test my ketones now, i still dont feel like im going down as my breathing is strained. will let you know about the ketones.

Hiya - I would suggest changing cartridge immediately, also do you think you could be coming down with a bug or tooth infection, monthly period ?

What sort of correcton are you taking ?

no nothing coming up, im not in pain with anything, i have a slight sore throat but put it down to the high sugars and dry throat. im taking my novo rapid, i was advised corrections no more than 3 units but i gave 8 this afternoon as it was at 22.9. ive been doing so well i dont know why this has suddenly happned!

Just because it was fine, doesn't mean it is fine now. Bin it and start a fresh one and, depending on when/what your last bolus was (don't assume old pen wasn't working at all and double up corrections), see what a fresh, cautious correction for the new pen does.

No ketones is reassuring, but strained breathing is a worry. If you are worried there is always 111 to call for advice.

Did you maybe forget your basal does today/last night?

i definetly took my long acting this morning as i had 2 needles left in my wallet this morning and used them both before i refilled. i often struggle with strained breathing when im high. cant really test again now until 9pm, so will test and go from there. definetly change my pen though. hate this disease, just when you think your on a good run, heading int he right direction it let you know its still the boss! x

Hi @GTilley
I would be testing every hour and depending on results possibly correcting further.

High BG's are one of the first signs I get when coming down with a cold or an infection.
here are sick day rules if not back into single figures soon. http://www.mydiabetesmyway.scot.nhs.uk/resources/leaflets/SickDayRulesForType1.asp

you are doing the right things and you certainly aren't alone -- all of us get this sometimes -- but you are deffo still the boss !!

you will have some insulin on board still -- so if going to bed soon -- set an alarm to test at midnight or 1am
best to be safe and............. YAY You !! glad you back to normal :)

That's good news, did you start a new cartridge ? Keep a close eye, just to make sure you don't dip, good news though ;)
